As soon as James Hetfield walked into Buddy's Diner, he was in love. Not with the tacky 50's interior or the greasy cheeseburgers, but with the gorgeous waitress who served him every day.

"Woah," James muttered under his breath as he and his bandmates took a seat in a booth with extremely firm cushioning. The first time he saw you, he was utterly speechless. He felt like he'd just fallen from his skateboard after failing to do a trick, lying on his back with the air knocked from his lungs.

"What?" Lars asked, looking around to see what James was staring at. He spotted you, stomping back into the kitchen with another order. "Ah, I see - Hot waitress,"

"She's... beautiful," James trailed off. Lars rolled his eyes, and decided the menu was more interesting than watching James drool.

You were clearly having a bad day when James first laid eyes on you. You were frazzled and busy with customers, having no time for any of the advances James was attempting.

At first he tried to be subtle, trying to catch your eye as you walked past - but to no avail. He was going to have to try a lot harder. Kirk and Lars tried their best not to cringe as you shut down any advance he made as quick as he blurted them out. The boys assumed he would give up, but James was not one to accept defeat so quickly.

So he came back the next day to try again, and he knew he would not stop coming until he got your number. Of course, his inflated ego thought that it would be a lot harder than it turned out to be. You were a tough nut to crack, but sometimes a challenge was fun. He never took it too far, simple flirting and nothing more - but sure enough it didn't work.

After a few days, you finally took notice that the same blonde man was coming by every day, but you were oblivious to the fact that he was coming to see you each time he walked through the doors. You thought perhaps he was new in town, and didn't know any other restaurants to try out. The Diner had an okay menu, but not one good enough to warrant coming back every day.

"Familiar face, can i take your order?" You quipped at him one day. He was a little startled, he didn't realise you would recognise him. You were in a great mood today, knowing it was payday, and it showed on your face - James thought you looked as if you were glowing.

"Uh - just two cheeseburgers and large fries," he stated firmly. Fuck! He thought, Now is your chance!

"Coming up," you said, offering a warm smile after writing down his order. The blonde man was cute, but he looked like a deer in headlights when you spoke to him. It was a little endearing.

James devoured his meal, his goal of asking you out in the back of his mind as he plucked the last few fries from his plate. He shook all the panicked thoughts from his mind, he had to be cool. He had to ask you out.

You approached the blonde after his meal was done, scooping up his plate and wiping down his table. He put a crumpled note on the now clean surface and cleared his throat.

"Hey, listen, do you think I could have your number," James said, exuding confidence. You were taken aback by his forwardness, raising an eyebrow. He wasn't getting anything from you so easy, you liked to play hard to get.

"Sorry honey, can't give that out to customers - store policy," You said succinctly. James' eyes dropped to the floor, defeated. You couldn't help but feel a little bad for him, but he had to work a little harder for your digits. You really weren't lying, though. If the boss saw you handing out phone numbers to customers, you'd surely be fired.

"Oh right, sorry," He mumbled. You offered him a reassuring smile before heading back to deal with a new round of customers. Soon after, James rushed outside, trying to think of another plan to win you over.

As your shift came to a close, you were quick to hurry outside and escape the monotony. You grabbed your coat and bag before heading out the backdoor, a cigarette already between your lips as you pushed open the heavy door with both hands. Before you could dig through your pockets for your lighter, you ran straight into a tall figure standing stationary in the dark.

"Shit!" You shouted, cigarette still clenched between your lips. You had dropped your bag with fright. Now you were beyond scared, the back alley wasn't a great place to be alone at this time of night with a strange figure. You looked up to see if you'd run into someone menacing, only to find the long haired man who'd been coming back to the diner every day.

"What are you doing out here?" You berated him. James had scared the life out of you.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" He apologised. You shrugged and picked up your bag from the ground.

"It's okay dude, but seriously, why are you lurking?" You pressed, finally locating the lighter shoved deep into your coat pocket. The cigarette spark did little to brighten up the darkness of the alleyway.

"You said I couldn't ask you out cos i was a customer... but I'm not a customer if you're not on the job," James said, trying his best not to smirk. He was impressed by his own antics.

You nodded and smiled, playing hard to get obviously worked it's magic on this guy. "Smart,"

"I'm James, by the way,"

"(Y/N), I've noticed you coming by here a lot," you said. You hoped that maybe he'd offer some explanation to his visits to the diner.

"I've been trying to ask you out since I first came into the place," James admitted. It was embarrassing, but he hoped that saying it out loud might make him seem less like a loser who just came to the same diner everyday for no reason. "It's lame I know, but I didn't know how to get your attention,"

"Really?" You questioned. You were quite flattered if James had actually been coming by so often just to see you, and hadn't yet mustered the courage to say anything. "You could've just asked me out for drink, you know?"

"So, how about a drink?" James smirked. You took a puff of your cigarette, pretending that you had to think about going out with him. You knew that you were going to agree, but you liked to tease a little.

"Only if you're buying,"
