When I came to, I groggily sat up, and rubbed my head. It was early morning by now.I hadn't hit my head that hard, so no concussion, but I would have a nasty lump.
I had to teach myself basic First Aid, so that I could fix myself if my mother decided to hit me.
The ring had fallen off when I fell, and I decided to put it back on, to see if, whatever happened, would happen again.
But, the light had gone out in the ring, and I was worried I had broken it.
I picked up the lantern, and, accidentally, the ring touched against the front of the lantern. The lantern exploded into blue light, and knocked me back a few feet, onto my butt.
I stared, mesmerized by the light, and the next words that came from my mouth didn't seem like my own.
"In fearful day,
In raging night.
With strong hearts full
Our souls ignite.
When all seems lost
In the war of light
Look to the stars-
For Hope burns bright!"My ring returned to the dazzling blue color, and the suit travelled back up my body, the material almost familiar to me now.
'I wonder if I try flying again.....?' I thought to myself. I took a deep breath, and jumped.
Nothing happened. To anyone who might have been watching, I must have looked pathetic. I groaned, disappointed that it wasn't as easy as Superman or Green Lantern made it look.
I closed my eyes, and imagined myself flying next to Superman, my black hair blowing in the wind, my body zooming easily through the sky.
When I opened my eyes, I realized I wasn't on the ground. I was about five feet in the air, floating.
"Woohoo!" I shouted in pure ecstasy, happy I had done something.
With a bit more concentration, I, slowly at first, moved higher into he air, and, once I got the hang of it, shot through the sky, heading just outside of Coast City, my home town. I landed in an open field, hoping nobody would see me teaching myself how to fly.
Flying made me feel incredible. Invincible. After about an hour I had flying under control, and headed back to my house. I refuse to call it a home. It's not my home. A home is a place where you feel safe, where you can go to relax. I feel nothing but tense and nervous at my house. I have to be on guard, watching what I say in case my mother thinks I am being disrespectful.
I flew just underneath the clouds, so that I could see the city below, but nobody would be able to see me.
As I flew over the city, I couldn't help but notice a lot of police cars huddled around what looked like the local bank. I stopped midair, confused.
Suddenly, I heard gunshots coming from inside the bank, and screams and cries following.
'The bank must be getting robbed!' I thought to myself. I knew I had to do something. I didn't know what. But the ring chose me for a reason.
And if I don't stop them, who will? Green Lantern must not be there yet. I flew down to the road a few blocks away, as I didn't want to be seen. I ran to the back entrance of the bank, which was surprisingly unguarded by police.
'That wasn't exactly a smart move by them,' I thought sarcastically.I went through the door, and to the front of the bank.
There, in between lots of scared hostages, were three people. They held guns, and were shooting them at the roof to get the civilians to stop screaming.
"Shut up!" The taller of the three shouted angrily. There were two men, and one woman. The second man looked more hesitant to shoot than the other two, but the woman looked eager for some action.
"Put the money in the bag lady! I don't have all day." The woman said to the receptionist.
The frightened receptionist was shaking, and kept saying, "please don't hurt me," under her breath, not even comprehending what the woman was saying.
"That's it! I have to kill her!" Said the woman happily, as if what she was saying was completely normal.
I decided to make myself known then. "No." I said calmly, but on the inside I was screaming at myself.
"Do you have a death wish, little girl? Cause If you do, it would be my pleasure."She grinned as she turned the gun on me.
I looked away, shielding my face as I heard the sound of the gunshot.
Nothing hit me. I opened my eyes to see a glowing, blue shield appeared, shielding me from the bullet.
"H-how..." she whispered, obviously shocked by my apparent powers.
I put my hands down, and the shield faded. I slowly grinned, raising an eyebrow at her.
"That all you got?" I asked, a lot more confident than my normal persona.
Her eyes narrowed. My voice got the attention of the other two men.
" I-is that G-Green Lantern?" The smaller male spoke, apparently terrified at the thought of the green-clad superhero.
"No you idiot!" The taller man said. "Green Lantern is green! This is just a cheap knock-off." He finished with disgust.
That made me angry. I suddenly put my hand into a fist, and swung it at all three of them. A glowing blue fist appeared, at least ten times bigger than my own,and him them with such a force they slammed against the opposite wall, knocked out.
I stared at my ring, amazed. Did I get superpowers because of this ring?
The main doors burst open. "Have no fear, Green Lantern is here!" A male voice spoke heroically. He scanned over the situation, saw the three gunmen against the wall, passed out, and stared at me.
"Who are you?" He asked rudely. I wouldn't blame him though. I look like him but in blue, I got here before he did and saved everybody. I must have stolen at least a little bit of his thunder.
"I don't really have a superhero name yet...." I laughed awkwardly. I knew I couldn't tell him my actual name, at least not in front of all these people (who were running out the door, happy to be free).
"Come with me." He commanded with a hardened expression.
He flew, out the door, and I basically had no choice but to follow him.
He flew up high into the sky, and stopped about 200 feet in the air.
"How did you do that? With the ring?" He asked.
I got nervous, so I did what I always do when I'm nervous. I rambled.
"I don't know what happened! All I know is I saw this weird glowey box thing fall from the sky, and fell into my backyard! I followed it, and a ring popped out and said, yes, the ring TALKED, 'Alya Vivani, you have been chosen to join the Blue Lantern Corps', and then this suit appeared and-"
"Wait, wait, wait. Hold up." He stopped me. "So you're a Blue Lantern?"
"I-I guess so."
He started mumbling to himself. "Great. Now I have to take her to Odym..."
"What's Odym?" I asked curiously.
He sighed.
"The home of the Blue Lanterns."
Part two done! Okay.
I Don't own the amazing drawing either at the side, or on top. I found it on safari. Credits go to the maker/drawer. That's what her costume looks like, but she has a mask.
