How can someone cope with change? They deal with it. Was is simple? No. But in this time in the world, nothing was never simple. When the world fell apart, someone had to rise. They at first called him The Savior, then named himself The King. Year after year, the mere subjects refer to him as a monster. He and his lords were thought as the coldest things to ever walk the earth, figuratively and litterally. Ashlynn knew she was being brought in for a reason. She thought long and hard as she had time, stuck in the same little black car for 8 hours. They only stopped for gas, and the Knights were in need of a quick bite. All Ashlynn had was a couple of burgers pelted at her from fast food chains, and water. She refused to eat anything until she knew what was supposed to happen.
She then arrived to the place where all power of the world held: The Marriott Palace. The black gates that surronded the palace opened up, and they drove up the black driveway. She took in the view of the lawn. A giant fountain right in front of the place. The car then parked inbetween the fountain and the palace.
"Wait here. Try something, and you will be pet food." The Knight who drove, the same one who took her away, spoke in the same deep voice. They then got out, and in a flash, they were gone.
Ashlynn looked at the way the place was built. The palace looked somewhat new, yet over a couple decades old. Hedges created pathways into the palace, around it, and around the fountain, and those pathways filed up with gray gravel and pebbles. From where she sat, she saw the plaque that stood beside the tall fountian.
The Endless Pool
When it crumbled, and became beauiful.
Built in 2178
She recongized the year as she recalled from a book she read. It was when The King took over the baren land that was known as America. When it fell, and he took over, trying to make it a better place. Then, the world followed. It wasn't like they had a choice anyways.
She jumped as the man from earlier appeared right outside her window along with two women. One around her mid 40's and the other late teens to early 20's. The man then opened the door, and grabbed her bicep, and hauled her to feet. He then shoved her towards the two women.
"These two will escort you to the prep rec. Where you will be taught on serving The Royals." Ashlynn was still trying to process what was going on. As she was being lead towards the palace, she took in the surrondings, remembering every detail her mind can get to. It wasn't like she could ever have the chance to leave the palace. They only time you can leave the palace if it was war, an order, or dead.
Reaching the door, Ashlynn saw the very large door that seemed to have stretched about 100 feet up. Being lead inside, she was instantly amazed. The building being so much larger, all made of white marble, and the floor all covered with red carpet, that looks so clean, it had the impression that it was changed every single day. Chandliers hung gracefully, and was made with many jewels that looked like giant raindrops, just waiting to fall. It was hard to actually see the lights encased in the chandlier.
Ashlynn was so focused to all the decorations, that she forgot that she was walking somewhere. Focusing along, she saw every door that was lining the halls. Every single one was just as tall as the one they entered from. Right on the side of the doors were golden plaques that were engraved with the name of the room.
"Tailors", "Cleaners", "Supplies", basically, anything they needed and more. Just before they reached the Prep Rec. room, they passed a door, just as the others, but the plauqe read "Servants. F." The thought of the servants thrown into the same room together is wrong, but probably appropriate for them. Figuring out that the letter F stood for females. So there had to be a room ment for the males. At least some respect.
Reaching the room, the younger looking maid throws the doors wide open, which surprised Ashlynn becasue the doors are so large, and heavy, that how can anyone push it with that much force, making look like someone ripping a piece of paper off a wall. Lead inside, all that laid was a wooden table, with a small bag, and the uniform Ashlynn was to wear. In the corner was one of those old paper folded dividers where one would change behind, and the floor was lined with emerald green carpets, and the walls a deeper shade of green, and the walls left bare. Then the older servant lady kindly gestured her toward the folded changing divder, while handing her the uniform. Without hesitation, Ashlynn grabbed the uniform, and went to go change. All she wanted to do was get out of those old clothes she had on for about 3 days.
Carfully removing her old dress, she hangs it on top of the divider right before someone on the other side grabbed it. Ashlynn examined the uniform. It was a white fitted top, with white bows on the back, and a light blue, loose skirt, similar to the bottom half of her dress. What a peculiar outfit. Doesn't match the others. She thought. And it was true. It wasn't what she thought it would look like, and with more thought, she noticed that it was different from the two servants in the same room. But, compared to each other, their outfits were completely different. The younger one had a simple maroon colored dress, an apron, and the same maroon colored head band, and matching flats. Her blonde hair in a simple bun. The elder had a loose white dress on, that resembled some what of a hospital gown, but had a belt. Brown shoes, and the graying hair was half pulled up.
Heading back out, the elder pulled out a chair, and motioned for her to sit. Once Ashlynn did, the youngest servant took the small bag, and pulled out some makeup that Ashlynn had never seen. Heck, she hasn't even had makeup before. Only some lip gloss or tinited chapsticks. A tinted creme was applied, colored powder, eyebrow plucked and filled, which was that was the worse feeling to her, and other complicated stuff she wouldn't get.
The eldest filed and painted her nails a deep navy blue color, and pulled Ashlynn's hair into a ponytail. Finishing off the look, the servant tied a lace ribbon with a bow on it; the same color as the skirt. Standing up, Ashlynn was told to step out of her shoes, and was given a new pair. The same blue color, and a white ribbon on the front.
"Here." The youngest servant shoved the small bag towards Ashlynn, while lazily holding up a small compat mirror. "You are to look like this everyday, for the royals want every single one of their workers polished." Ashlynn just nodded as she tried to get every single detail that was marked on her face. She looked like her, but better. "Edna, go take her. It's getting late." The youngest nodded towards the door. Ashlynn now knew the other's name was Edna. Edna nodded, and smiled down at Ashlynn. Together, Edna lead Ashlynn out the door, with the small makeup bag in hand, and down the hallway.
"Be careful." Edna said as they continued to walk, while keeping her gaze forward. Ashlynn turned to her and had a questioning look on her face. "The Royals, if you impress them, they might stick you close enough to a Head, and not a Link." Nothing coming out of Edna's mouth was making sense, or clearing anything, but Ashlynn knew she would get it sooner or later, so just nodded instead.
Passing every door, at the very end, was a door that read "Dining". Panic was rising in Ashlynn, knowing someting was for dinner, and it had something to do with her. "Good luck." Edna simply says as they approach the door. Right before stepping through, Edna pushes Ashlynn through the door, but did not follow her. Everyone in the room stops as they spot Ashlynn. She stands up straight, and clears her throat. There, in the middle, sitting at the large, round, wooden table, were 5 people. The two on the very right, were a boy and girl, around their early 20's, but still looking the same age as Ashlynn, pushing and laughing at each other. The two on the very left, two males around the same age as the other two, still looking the same age, deep in conversation. Right in the middle, the most itimiadating one there, deeping looking at Ashlynn with a smirk, looking slightly older than the other 4, was the one eho was in controll. Despite their looks, they were beyond guessing their age. There, right in front of Ashlynn was the Royals.
