News got back to Lucas that Maya and Josh sparked their romance again. He didn't understand why Maya Hart had to fall for Joshua Matthews. The guy was a complete idiot, he barley knew much about Maya. Yet, he was the one taking her home after every date, yet he was the one kissing her whenever he could, yet he was the one that the blonde seemed to lose her mind over. Lucas wasn't winning in this game, and it was completely frustrating. Not that he thought he was this irresistible guy that could make Maya fall for, he just knew that he was right for her. It was time for her to realize that, too.

Lucas couldn't help but feel hurt. He was stupid, regretting all the times he danced around her and was in denial about his feelings. But, Maya doesn't know that she's hurting him. Hell, she doesn't even know about his feelings for her.

In any scenario he wanted Maya to be happy. He meant it when he screamed it in class when there wasn't enough fundings for the art program she was in.

For now, Lucas thought it was in his best interest to stop fancying Maya. She was noticeably in love with Josh and there was no changing that. He had been so incredibly selfish with his own feelings that he didn't even consider the possibility that she's truly happy with him.

Yeah, he would consider fighting for Maya. But there was no point. Now, it's Joshua. And that's how it's always going to be.

"Aw," Maya taunted. "Little cowboy in a flunk? Did Riley reject you again?"

"Not in the mood Maya." He secretly rolled his eyes with a slam of his locker, resting his body against it. Maya frowned at his sudden behavior, usually Lucas was never sad. More so furious.

"You okay, Huckleberry?"

"I'll be fine." He turned his attention away from her. "Now, if you wouldn't mind, I would like some alone time."

"Alone time?" She giggled.

He sighed. Lifting himself off the surface of his locker and walking past her. It was a douchebag move, of course. But how was he supposed to get over her if she lingers around him all the time? Maya couldn't help but scowl at him.

"Lucas.." she poked him for the umpteenth time. She nudged him for half the period and it was starting to get under his skin. He wanted to baldly to hiss at her to stop, but he just took it, rolling his eyes every time she adressed him. "Lucas Pucas," She grinned, "Ranger Roy," He sighed. "Ranger Rickkkkk."

"Ugh," he exasperated his sigh, throwing is head back towards her. "..What? Can't you see I'm trying to pay attention."

"Yes," she smiled happily, glad that she was able to crack him. "But, you're feeling down and I wanna cheer you up."

Lucas slouched in his chair while rolling his pen between his fingers. He then began to fidget with the spirals of his notebook. He didn't know why this sudden nervousness appeared. "I..I don't think that anything could cheer me up. But, I'm glad you're trying, Maya."

"What's making my best friend sad?" She pouted. Lucas avoided eye-contact. It was too damn hard, considering the fact that he's crazy about her.

"Nothing you need to worry about, Pancakes." He assured, sitting himself upright in his seat again before the teacher noticed. "I'll get over it."

"But what's the thing that's making you so upset?" She questioned, again. How hard was it for her to understand? Lucas Friar was undeniably, madly in love with her. For years now. Yet, he continues to screw up any possibility that would get them together.

"Maya stop," He knew exactly what she was doing. Using her cute, persuasive tone to get him to crack. "I know what you're doing. Just leave it at that, okay? Please just respect me by not asking."

"Okay, Lucas." She groaned, knowing that she had lost. "But promise you'll return back to normal?"

"Promise."
