Teresa POV
The bright, blue sky slowly turned into a sunset as Thomas showed me around the Glade after he convinced me to come down from the high wooden post. I secluded myself there the minute I saw only boys surrounding my previously unconscious body. I was still in a dazed trance as Thomas explained where I would be sleeping, suddenly nudging my shoulder, "You alright?"
I turned to him to simply nod and smile as I let my crossed arms fall from my chest to help him set up my collected items. "Don't you think it's a bit strange that there's only guys here, like don't you feel, uncomfortable?"
Thomas laughed it off at first until he looked at my face and came to a stop. He gestured to my designated hammock to sit as he put his hands on my shoulders. He breathed in deeply and exhaled, nodding to me to do the same. I rolled my eyes but reluctantly did it.
"Look I understand how you might find yourself uncomfortable here but remember, based on our visions and how well we get along right now, I'll be there to make sure none of these people even look in your direction if it makes you feel distraught. After all, that's what traumatized best friends are for," Thomas stated, giggling by the end as he patted my back. Knowing that I at least have him by my side, I inform Thomas of the greeting bonfire that was to be made in my honor so we could get on our way.

As the fire shone brightly in our dark festivities, each of the members of the maze rose Gally's drink to the sky as they called out my name. I laughed at the sight as I rose my cup of water along with Chuck and chugged it down. I wiped my mouth and rose from my seat to refill it as Chuck continued to tell his fantasy stories to the boys who would hear him. I neared the outpost with food and drinks until I stopped.
A bright warm light enveloped a part of the maze wall that swayed side by side with a figure accompanying it. I felt my legs move toward the newfound element along with everyone else as we witnessed the being slowly descend from the wall with a rope around their waist supporting their body. When they reached the bottom, Alby and Newt tried to assist them with verbal alert but immediately back away as the being pulled a dagger out from their cloak and held it out in their direction. They looked throughout the audience they attracted but stopped, their arm slowly lowering from the air while the other went towards their hood to reveal their face.
They had e/c eyes that reflected the glow of their light source with h/c hair that perfectly shaped their features, making them all the more seem like a miracle bestowed from the heavens within this wretched labyrinth. Their eyes filled with tears as they let out a breath and rushed to Chuck who equally bestowed the same emotions as he engulfed them in a hug. Everyone stood silent, not wanting to interrupt a bittersweet moment until Alby came forward and asked the question I assumed was on all our minds, "Who are you?"
The person wiped their eyes and recollected their composure to respond, "My name is Y/N, I have been in search of my younger brother for a while now." They completely let go of Chuck as they ran their hands through their hair as they let out a gasp with a changed demeanor. Their eyes met mine, lingering for a moment before they looked back towards the crowd.
"I've managed to go under their radar but it won't be long until they find out I'm here. I couldn't bear the thought of WICKED doing God knows what to Chuck so I broke into their facility and came down here to find y'all-"
"Wait, what?!"
Gally radiated confusion with his arms drawn out as he slowly shook his head, "What are you even saying, Shank," he turned towards his fellow gladers as he gestured to the new presence, "How do we know this being is even human, they might be a new contraption from the maze, bitten by a griever that's come here to drive us mad!"
Thomas emerged from the crowd and confronted Gally, "From what I see, they look completely fine and saner than you seem to be, care to remind you we're all a little intoxicated from your special contraption!"
As Gally and Thomas got into a heated argument, we failed to hear the sounds of the maze stop and the sound of grievers slowly approaching us until it was too late. We turned to the wide open entrances to see our light sources being blocked by huge grievers quickly inching their way closer to us. I felt a hand grab mine as everyone followed Y/N to a section of the wall now bestowed with more ropes, "Climb the rope to the top, from there follow the colored trail, it'll lead y'all to the exit!"
"What about you!" They turned towards me -myself shocked from even exclaiming the thought- and responded, "Well princess, let's hope we see each other after this whole ordeal!"
They turned away from me to run towards the grievers along with other gladers to hold them off as I hurriedly climbed to the top, my heart and mind fluttering from the intense fear and flutter of the situation along from what Y/N said. I ceased my thoughts when I reached the top and followed Thomas to run along the top of the walls with everyone to hopefully find our refugee.
*-*-*-*-*
I was hanging off the side of the wall along with Newt. Chuck and Minho were at the exit attempting to decipher the code that would open it while all the others were battling with the grievers that managed to reach us. Newt and I attempted to climb the vines to reach the high platform but with our weight supporting solely on the dried up vegetation crawling along the vertical stone, our best bet was to silently plead that someone, anyone would come by and assist us up.
Thomas had yelled reassurances during the battle of coming to help us up but with the grievers slowly increasing in proximity and in taking lives, whether it be by throwing them over or grotesquely biting off their limbs, it seemed that our end would come sooner than we would have liked. Little by little, our grasps on the vines slipped as we agonizingly drew closer to the dark pit below us. I drew in a breath as I felt tears fall from my eyes, Newt's dislocated shoulder growing more painful from his wails and groans emitting from his dread-filled voice.
However, I saw a griever fall from the platform to the dark pit with fire enveloping its body, melting off its skin along with its screams. One after the other, grievers continued to fall meeting their death as shouts of victory grew above, thankfully growing closer to us. I laughed and looked towards Newt who looked at me with hopeful eyes, we were finally going to be saved.
My joy was cut short when I saw Newt's hopeful expression turn pained and shocked as I saw him grow farther from me. It seemed that a griever's limbs had pulled one of the vines with it, my sole support, causing me to slowly descend into the abyss. I tried to grab onto any green ropes I could to hopefully stop my decline but the further I fell, the more my expectations grew farther.
I was going to die but at least Newt would be safe, Thomas would be safe, Chuck would be free; they'd be alright. I closed my eyes and welcomed death when suddenly, I felt my body being roughly grabbed and swung increasingly upward. I opened my eyes to see Y/N focusing on reaching their destination, their grip tightening on me when they glimpsed at me to see that I was conscious. When we reached the top, I could barely register what everyone was saying, all I could truly focus on was Y/N and their voice. After what seemed to be a funny remark from Y/N, I closed the distance between us and met their lips with mine. I gently placed my hands on their cheeks as they wrapped their arms quickly around my waist.
With each moment, my memory slowly came back to me: moments of Y/N and I plotting our rescue of those in the glade, simple dates in the WICKED compound, our tearful goodbye as I informed them of the sad news of me having to leave to enter the maze. The minute we let go, our foreheads connected as we both stayed in place with grins demonstrating our joy in finding each other.
"How it hurts to see you like this, my darling," Y/N softly said as they reached a hand to my face to inspect my features closely.
"At least it's you I get to see, lovely," I giggled as I kissed them again, this time being more chaste and sweet. Damn WICKED for making it hell, but at least I got to fall for them all over again.
