"I can't believe you brought her here! Her leader will find out that she is in our sector and then I will be the one who has to pay!" My father scowls as he walks through the halls of the base. I follow behind him and try convincing him to let Sophie out of the cell that he threw her in.
"But, she's so little! She couldn't survive out there on her own! Especially with fully grown zombies out there!" I shout, quickening my pace to keep up with him.
The walls and floors are made out of a boring concrete and the halls echo every sound you make. Sometimes people would walk past and turn their gaze to the opposite wall from us, completely ignoring our conversation as to not get involved.
My father turns to a tinted glass door and unlocks it with the key attached to the necklace around his neck, beside his own code.
"Sir, it wasn't her fault." Drew states.
My father steps inside the bland room and we both follow, Drew right beside me. The door clicks shut. My father seems to think before looking back at the both of us, "Oh, of course it's not Jessica's fault." He turns to Drew with a hostile look on his face, "It's your fault, you let her go. You could have stopped her." He says darkly, taking a step towards Drew, but I quickly step in front of him and narrow my eyes at my father.
"Don't hurt him." I say sternly.
"And why shouldn't I?" My father hisses.
"I- I made him come with me." I lie, stuttering through my words.
"So, it is your fault!" He laughs quietly.
I stay silent and Drew's about to object when my father slaps me across the face, causing me to collapse onto the ground from the force of the hit. As I hit the ground my head hits the rough concrete wall and everything begins to get fuzzy straight away. The last words I heard before I passed out was very faint, like he yelled it from far away, "It's about time you learn a lesson, don't you think?"

I open my eyes slowly. The world seems bright before fading back to it's dimly lit light and concrete walls and floors. Seems almost the same as when I passed out... The only thing different was the sound of constant footsteps and everything in my vision seems to be bobbing up and down. Then I notice the arms beneath my knees and upper back and the fact that my legs are basically dangling. My hands are resting on a masculant chest. I'm being carried?
I lift up my head and see Drew's face. He glances down at me in his arms, "Rise and shine, sunshine." He smiles. I smile back.
I then immediately search around us for my father, and sure enough, he walks a few paces behind Drew, "What happened?" I ask in a whisper.
"Don't worry about it." Drew says, looking back up, a frown barely present on his face.
"Where are we going?" I ask, looking ahead of us.
"The cells." The cells?! He's putting me in that prison?! Holy crap! This, all for what I did?! Drew chuckles quietly at my worried expression, "To see Sophie." Oh... That makes sense.
"Is she awake yet?" An impatient voice asks sternly.
"Yes, sir." Drew answers.
"Then she can walk herself instead of being treated like a queen and having you carry her around everywhere." My father orders plainly.
Drew stops and slowly lowers my body so that I can stand on my own. I stumble out of his arms before quickly balancing myself against the wall. We both smile widely, but manage to hold back our laughs.
"Hurry up." My father commands, using his leader tone.I walk beside Drew as we continue through the halls, towards the prison.
Once we're almost there, the whole building shakes and concrete dust falls from the roof. The lights flicker profusely. We all stop in our tracks and me and Drew exchange glances. I don't think this has ever happened before.
Suddenly the loud speaker booms through the hall, "We have a breach. This is not a drill. I repeat, we have a breach. This is not a drill."
Well, this has definitely never happened before. The Hordes have never been able to get through. At least not until now.
My father huffs before storming passed us and taking different turns. Me and Drew stand there, both of us confused out of our minds. We stand there in silence before I finally speak, "They got through."
"Well, shit. This has never happened. What do we do?" Drew questions.
I glance at an exit and then the way to the prison, "We have to go. But we can't leave Sophie. She'll die. She got lucky once, but I doubt it's possible to get lucky twice." I state. Straight away, I begin rushing through the halls. Drew seems to hesitate before following me.
"Uh- About that," He says, almost nervously.
"Yeah?" I ask as I continue rushing through the halls.
"Well..." We make our way down a long, spiralling staircase. "She may have... Kind of..." We get to the bottom of the staircase, where it is almost pitch black. I grab a lantern that hangs on the wall and light it. We pass many cells and I glance in each one looking for Sophie. "Jessica, listen!" Drew grabs my arms and stops me in front of a pitch black cell, he turns me towards him.
"What?" I ask him urgently.
"I lied!" He says.
"What do you mean, 'you lied'?" I ask him.
"She was bitten!" It suddenly hits me like a ton of bricks. I knew something was up with them two.
Suddenly, something touches my arm. I yelp and jump away from the pitch black cell beside me, dropping the lantern, which shatters into a million pieces on the bland concrete floor. I'm shocked to see Sophie. Her slightly torn face shows no emotion and her eyes are like mists. Her breathing is husky whenever she breathes in, like she is struggling to breathe. I'm filled with sadness. Her small hands are reaching through the bars as she tries to get to me. Drew seems a little shocked at the sight of the poor little girl. I grab his arm and pull him close to me. I feel tears sting my eyes to see a five year old girl have such a short life. He wraps his arm around me. "Let's just go. We have to get out of here before they get to us." He sighs and we make our way out of the prison.
Once we get far enough away from the girl, she starts whining as if she's going to cry.
"Jessica..." She says in a croaking, choking voice, but we both know that she is long gone.
