The snow falls lightly on the thick layers of trees above my head. I have my head turned up to face the sky as some snowflakes manage to weave through the billions of tree leaves above and some even land on my cheeks. After two seconds they melt and create tiny water droplets. The sun is covered by the clouds above and is nowhere in sight. There is little to no wind so everything seems silent.
"It's pretty, isn't it?" I hear Drew's voice behind me.
"It's beautiful." I say, closing my eyes as the snowflakes continue to fall above me. I hear the snow crunch as footsteps approach me.
"C'mon, let's keep moving." Drew suggests.
I sigh and open my eyes, slowly tilting my head down until I'm looking straight ahead. Ahead of us looks like endless forestry and behind is the exact same. "Okay." I mutter as Drew walks ahead, "The further we get from that hell-hole, the safer." I say.
"But the further, the more zombies." Drew turns back to me, "The deadlier."
"Sounds fun! Let's move faster!" I say sarcastically, before pausing, "What if they survived and my father comes looking for us?" I wonder.
"I don't know. This was your idea. We could've stayed and just behaved and perhaps we would've lived longer." He says.
"We're still alive. You're talking past tense." I correct him, "What did I say earlier yesterday?"
He sighs and turns back ahead of us, ignoring me. I quicken my pace and catch up with him. I grab a hold of his hand, he tenses up for a split second. "We'll be fine." I smile as he relaxes. He turns and smiles, his cheeks seem red, but perhaps it's just the cold. He quickly turns his head back to face the forest ahead of us and we continue on our way through the thick forest.
"Where exactly do you plan on us heading?" He asks after a few moments of silence.
"Forward." I say, almost bluntly.
"You do know we will die, not from those monsters, but from the cold." He says. I squeeze his hand softly.
"We can work it out. Together." I smile once more and I see him do the same, his cheeks seem to redden once more, before he quickly turns his head in the opposite direction. I chuckle.
"What?" He asks, looking my way, his cheeks brighter red now.
"I didn't know that the one, the only, Drew blushes." I say, laughing.
"Oh, shut up!" He exclaims, before jabbing me in the side.
"Hey!" I shout, surprised. I pull my hand out of his grasp and jab him in the side. Hard. He chuckles and begins tickling my stomach. "Stop it, Drew!" I giggle.
"Not until you say sorry." He laughs.
"No way!" I manage to giggle out, slapping his hands away.
"Alright then." He simply says, before picking me up around the waist and hoisting me up over his shoulder.
"Drew!" I giggle, "Put me down!"
We both fall to the snow covered ground. Drew holds himself up on top of me by his hands on either side of me. Both of us, face to face, our noses almost touching. His warm breath hitting my face softly. Once we both realise the situation we're in we both blush wildly, before he quickly stands up. "Sorry." He mumbles, as he reaches a hand down to me. I take it and he helps me up delicately.
"Well, well, well... What do we have here?" A deep voice says from the way we were headed. We both snap our heads in the direction of the voice to see two men and one women. All of them wearing old clothes and pointing black AK-47's at us. I whip out my silver pistol and aim it at the middle guy's head. Assuming he's the leader of the small group.
