"A school picnic?"
"Yeah! We have one this year. Why, are you busy?"
You sighed, checking the calendar on your phone. It's already been quite some time since the school year started and you haven't done anything regarding the case you were investigating.
In fact, you had no leads on who the rapist was and how he managed to do it. And it made you frustrated.
". . . [f/n]?" Your eyes snap up to Mira, forcing a smile on your face.
"I shouldn't be busy," you said. "I just need to bring my laptop or my tablet with me so I can get some work done."
"Work? You have a job?" Zack questioned, an eyebrow raised.
You nod your head in affirmation. "I work as a coder for Paprika and Twitch." Which wasn't a lie . . . just part of the truth.
"What?" Yui shouted behind you and you turned around to look at her.
Mira glanced at her before saying, "Oh right, Yui is a streamer on there. Paprika, that is."
You didn't need to be told twice as recognized her when you first came; one of the beauties of the website. She has a huge following . . . which meant a lot of creepy fans. She was one of the reasons why you started investigating crimes that happened online; your boss told you what had happened to her and Zoe, which lead you to search through the web about other crime-doers.
You nodded, "Yeah, I know. I'd recognize that face anywhere."
With the rest of your friends chatting amongst themselves, you find yourself scrolling through your phone mindlessly. While you'd rather go out and look for leads, it would be likely that Zoe would be tagging along with you wherever you wanted to go, which would be a terrible and messy situation if anything went bad. Especially when she barely knows how to protect herself.
A loud slam of the door made you jump before you hastily shove your phone in your pocket.
"Keep it down." It was one of the teachers, either a history or an English teacher. "We're trying to work."
You scoffed, almost a bit too loudly. The teacher's head turned to your direction, which made you gulp.
Fuck.
"Excuse me, [f/n], did you say something?"
You thought for a moment before saying, "No I didn't, but do you want me to say something? About how you guys never teach any of us, only sit in that teacher's lounge to gossip and hang out without doing your jobs? Do you want me to say something about how your 'work' is just all of the teachers checking out—" You stopped yourself from saying anymore.
"Alright, that's enough. [f/n], would you mind staying after class for a few minutes. I need to have a word with you."
You let out a sigh. "Yeah, yeah, alright."
Perfect, actually.
If all goes well, then you can use the excuse of detention to discover who the rapist is, assuming he does his crimes after school. Or, at least, the place where he does his crimes.
Emphasis on the words "if all goes well".
And what if the teacher who just punished you was the perpetrator? What then?
You groaned. Maybe you should've thought this out beforehand.

The end of the school day came by rather quickly.
Most school days, you slept to make up for the hours of sleep you lacked, talked to the rest of your friends in the fashion department, work on coding, etc. But today, you spent most of the day looking around the school. In hopes of finding a lead, you resorted to peeking in teachers' lounges, eavesdropping in other classrooms, and following teachers around whenever you saw them roaming the halls.
And when the clock finally struck 3:30pm, you begrudgingly walked back to your class.
The lack of activity at school was jarring. A lot of the students only stay at their classroom, doing their own business. On the other hand, there are students who stays in bathrooms to smoke, people in the cafeteria to grab snacks, and, rarely, students who buys food from the vending machines scattered around the school.
What if something happened while you were goofing off with everyone?
You bit your lip in frustration. The euphoria of moving to a new environment seemed to have finally pass and now you have to face the consequences of it.
After more walking and thinking, you finally reached your classroom.
Realizing that this teacher might be the teacher you've been looking for, you got out your phone and started an audio recording before slipping it into your school bag.
Taking a deep breath in, you enter the classroom.

hi guys i'm he—wait, what happened. why are you all still here?
idk how new readers keep coming in, but hello! welcome!
it actually has been a year. another birthday has past, so that means i've been on a really long hiatus and i'm way past the due date for a new chapter.
i honestly have no other excuse other than just me losing inspiration for this fic. don't get me wrong, i love this book with all of my heart. but it's hard to sit down and write for this story, especially when school started a month ago and my mind is constantly overworked from ap classes and learning how to play an instrument (i'm learning how to play guitar, it's pretty fun to play).
but enough about me. how have you guys been? how's school and all? and why did y'all give me 15k? i'd love to hear about what you've been up to for the past year.
again, don't be a silent reader!
