Snakes

At each side of mine,

Is a snake entwined,

Linked around my legs,

And each one begs,

And hisses,

And kisses,

Me, with their forked tongues,

Their harsh fangs pricking my lungs.

Their winding tails spin wild tales,

They are their cold, slippery scales,

They coax me to their side,

Try as I may to not abide,

And they pull me and pull me into the blue,

And I sink deeper and deeper into the rue,

As I realize the dirty truth,

Stripping me of my eternal youth,

They whisper secrets of their greatness in each ear,

Their honeyed poison coating my fear,

And with each word they hiss,

Sending me into supposed bliss,

My eyes glaze over as the last fight leaves my breath,

And leave me to my mind's death.
