Chapter 17

    I quickly prepared myself for any possible outcomes, watching as Yabase looked at me.

    "Watch where you're going." He spat before continuing on his way down the road.

    A breath of relief left my system and I quickly made my way home. Once I got inside, I was met with the figure of my mother passed out at the table, beer can in hand.

    I rolled my eyes and went to pick her up. She reeked of cigarettes and booze. Why couldn't I have a normal mom? I put her in bed and then went to my own room to lie down.

    The next day was ordinary up until lunch time when Kousuke called me out of the classroom.

    "What's up?" I asked lightly, tilting my head to the side.

    "Look, this is kind of awkward to ask, but that English teacher is really getting on my nerves so would it bother you if I pretended to be dating Hasekura's sister just to ward her off?" Kousuke sighed.

    "Eh? Isn't she married?" I exclaimed.

    "Ssh, keep it down. Her husband won't mind, he understands." Kousuke waved it off.

    "Um...okay. Just as long as it doesn't get further than pretending." I chuckled, preparing to return to class.

    "Never." Kousuke replied, giving me a warm smile before watching me return to class.

    That was a bit of a strange question, but at least he's trying to handle it peacefully I suppose.

  

    The next day I was sitting in class and Kousuke came in a little late. He seemed out of breath and tired.

    I didn't question it really, he probably just slept in. Afterwards, he left the room in a hurry, he didn't even glance at me once.

    During lunch, I walked over and peeked through the door of the staff room. Kousuke and the new teacher were talking to each other.

    He was very calm and collected, hands in his pockets face blank. She was swaying slightly from side to side and twirling a piece of hair around her finger.

    Kousuke listened to her say something and then shook his head. He seemed like he was about to say something before he spotted me.

    "Oh shoot."

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy with the school musical. Hope y'all are ok with that :D.
