One particularly boring day, it was quickly turned upside down as there was an announcement that there was to be a Yule Ball taking place. Murmurs spread around the castle on who would go with who.

Professor McGonagall had brought all the 5th and 6th years to learn how to dance. Even worse, learn how to ballroom dance. Girls were seated on one side of the room, and boys were adjacent to them.

I had never ballroom danced before, but I assume that I would have two left feet. The professor ordered us to get into pairs, and I immediately turned to Samantha, before McGonagall announced that girls would have to pair up with boys, and boys with girls.

Then, I glanced over to Peter, who was watching me with the same expression. I grinned. Partners it was, then.

I watched with horror-struck eyes as Professor McGonagall danced with her 'air partner'; this was public humiliation, really. The girls eagerly got up, bar Samantha, a few others and I, while the boys reluctantly grumbled and got off their chairs slowly. I didn't blame them.

I caught Cedric staring at me from the corner of my eye, and I was careful not to turn to his direction as Cho walked up to him and asked if he would like to be her partner. I heard him even though the room was buzzing with sound.

"Yes."

I smiled faintly to myself. I suppose it was well that he was moving on, and Cho was such a nice person; definitely nicer than I was. She was perfect for him, really. From the very few times that I had spoken to the girl, the kindness seemed to radiate from her like waves. Now, that wasn't a creepy thing to say, was it?

"y/nnnnnn," Peter grinned, suddenly appearing beside me. I raised an eyebrow inquiringly, smothering a smile. "Hi," he simply said. "Hello?" I replied, more of a question than an answer.

"Take your partners, everybody," the professor announced, a distraught-looking Roger Davies standing reluctantly beside her as she grabbed one of his hands for the dance. I grinned at him, stifling a laugh as he glared indignantly at me.

"I don't want to do this," I complained, hesitating to put my hand in Peter's. "Oh, quit procrastinating,
l/n," he teased." Shut up, Smith," I snapped back, smiling, before turning to Professor McGonagall with a frown.

This was going to be a long day.

After hours of absolute pure torture, we were permitted to leave, and I gladly picked up my bag with Peter following closely behind. "y/n, who are you going with to the ball?" Peter asked, rushing to keep up with my steps. "I don't plan to go, actually," I replied. "Why not?" he questioned. "Because no one's probably going to ask me," I chuckled.

"Well then y/n, I'll save you the embarrassment and we can go together!" Peter grinned cheerfully. "No. Nonono. No! Peter, don't..." I begun.

"y/n."

"Nonono."

"My dearest friend."

"NO."

"Will you give me the honour to," Peter grinned; the damn boy was enjoying every second of this.

"NONONONO."

"Take you to the ball?!"

"No!"

"Alright it's settled then," he grinned, "I'll pick you up from the common room on the day."
He linked his arm through mine and dragged me to the common room cheerfully.

Merlin, all I heard were whispers of the damn Yule Ball. I suppose it was quite exciting, yet was it really necessary to chatter about it every single second of the day? My dorm mates just simply wouldn't shut up about the ball, discussing about who they would go with, who they want to go with and who would go with them, and so on. I couldn't wait for this Yule Ball to be over.

I sauntered down the corridor on a snowy Saturday morning with an armful of books with only studying on my mind. The warmth of the library encouraged my legs to go a little faster; even the castle was freezing at this time of year.

Reaching the library, I headed off to my 'secret corner' of the place which was a cosy little spot between two shelves which were around a metre apart.

I sat down cross-legged on the floor and leaned on the wall behind me. Opening my book bag, I pulled out a book about Magical Creatures with slight struggle; it was much heavier than the other books in my bag.

Or, maybe I was just weak.

Before I could even finish the first page, I was already disrupted by none other than Roger Davies. "I knew I'd find you here," he said before dropping down and crossing his legs opposite me.

"Alright, so, Michael told me that Jack told him that Penelope told him that Sarah told her that Charlie told her that Cedric asked Cho to the Yule Ball," he said before gasping for air, exactly like what Peter had told me a while ago.

"And?" I prompted. "And she said yes," Roger finished. "Good for him, then. Cho's a nice girl," I smiled to cover my jealousy tainted with guilt. How I wished that I would just get over him already.

"Who are you going to the Yule Ball with? Or are you such an old sod that you're not even going with someone, or worse, you're not going at all?" I joked. "Will you stop sniping at me for a second or two,
y/n?" Roger complained. "No, it's much too fun," I grinned.

"Well, to answer your question, I'm going with Fleur Delacour," he announced proudly with a dreamy look in his eyes. "No way. There is just no damn way," I snorted. "I really am going with her," he replied indignantly. "Alright, you slipped her a love potion, didn't you?" I finished with a grin.

Just then, Fleur walked past. "Oh hello, Roger. I hope you're ready for the Yule Ball," she flashed him a charming grin and sauntered away, leaving a now drooling open-mouthed Roger. There was no way in Hogwarts that he of all people was going to go with Fleur.. right? "Roger. Roger. Roger. Roger," I waved a hand in front of his face, yet he still seemed to be under her veela charm or whatever.

I rolled my eyes and walked away, leaving the idiotic Ravenclaw there to fix himself up.
