I S A B E L  B E A T R I Z

I'm one summer away from being a sophomore in high school. And just when I thought everything was going silky smooth, my heart decided to feel things for Jho. She's just a common friend (well, I can't really say she's my friend 'cause we haven't formally met YET) and I really don't know why or how it led to this out of the blue. And it's hard for me because I don't know where she lives, or what her number is.

I don't know if it's just the raging hormones of a teenager but I'm panicking as of the moment.

"Miss de Leon!"

"Huh?" Great. Now I'm spacing out. Again.

"I said please say present when I am calling your surname."

"Sorry sir. I'm present."

Our teacher just shook his head while I tried my best to pay attention to my new classmates. It's a summer class after all.

"Maraguinot, Jhoana Louisse."

"Present, sir." I quickly looked at the back of the room where the voice came from. Nice, she's my classmate. I guess that's good?

The class went on and as much as I wanted to focus, somehow my attention is divided. Y'all already know. So as soon as the bell rang to signal that it's time for recess, I approached her. She was just staying in the room and pulled out biscuits from her bag.

"Hi Jho! You're Jia's friend right?"

"Uh yes. And you're Miss de Leon. You weren't paying attention earlier during the roll call." She smiled and I swear to God, it's the cutest thing I saw today.

"Wow. What a great first impression right?" I scratched my nape, which is a mannerism I do every time I'm shy or embarrassed.

"That's okay. So, why are you here?"

"Oh. Jia was my classmate last time and I always saw you two talking in the hallways. Jia and I are pretty close but we were never introduced to each other. So I guess it's about time? We'll be classmates anyway so I think this is a good way to start the class."

"Okay Bea. It's nice meeting you! You want some snacks?" She offered her food to me and I'm internally battling with myself if I'll accept it or not.

"Sure! Oh wait. I'm gonna get some of mine." I rushed to my bag and we exchanged snacks. We were having a casual conversation about our studies until the bell rang again which meant that I have to go back to my seat.

"Thanks for the snacks, Jho! I'll go back to my seat."

"Sure thing, Bea." She smiled at me and I secretly smiled as I turned my back on her.

To be honest, I'm pretty proud of myself for sustaining a conversation with her considering that she's my crush and all. If I keep up this kind of attitude, I bet we'll be close in no time.

I was shocked when I saw her outside our room. It took me a few minutes to fix my things and I thought everybody went home already.
