Chapter 11

While Starr and Brianna were undergoing surgery, Cara came into the ER with grim news for Ryan and Greenlee about her pregnancy.

"Cara, what's wrong?" Greenlee asked Cara.

"It's not good."

"What is it?" Ryan asked scared for Greenlee and the baby."

"The baby didn't make it." Cara said.

"What?" Greenlee said with disbelief.

"The baby had no chance." Cara explained. "You had an ectopic pregnancy."

"What does that mean?" Ryan asked as Greenlee was in shock to learn of her miscarriage.

"It means the egg was fertilized outside the uterus."

After Cara gave Ryan and Greenlee the news, she left them to console each other alone.

Meanwhile, in Brianna's room, Marty, Zack and Cole waited in Brianna's room when the nurse brought Brianna in after her surgery.

"How is Starr?" Cole asked the nurse.

"She's in recovery." The nurse told Cole.

"Can I see her?"

The nurse gave Cole Starr's room number, coincidentally next to Brianna's at Starr's request. Cole went to see Starr while the nurse told Marty and Zack that David would be in to talk with her and see Brianna.

Meanwhile, Greenlee was emotionless when Ryan brought Greenlee home from the hospital after her miscarriage. Kendall came to see her when Ryan failed to get through to her.

"Hey, Greens!" Kendall said trying to cheer up her friend.

But it was useless.

"Just leave!" Greenlee said bitterly. "Go home to your two sons!"

"I'm sorry, Ryan!" Kendall told Ryan, as she left Ryan and Greenlee's. She felt sorry for Greenlee, but she didn't know how to help her.

While Ryan worried about Greenlee and her loss, Marty, Zack, Starr and Cole celebrated he success of Brianna's surgery.

"When you get out of here, what do you say we go to Zack's Casino for dinner?" Cole asked Starr out on a date.

"Cole, we're not old enough to go to a casino?" Starr said, reminding him of their ages.

"Zack said he could put me in a remote part of the restaurant if I wanted to have a dinner date there?" Cole explained.

"Marty seems to have fallen for this Zack guy?" Starr said, happy for Marty for the first time since Patrick's death.

"Yeah, and it's eerie that he looks just like dad!" Cole mused.

At Ryan and Greenlee's, Greenlee told Ryan she need to get out and take a walk. As Greenlee walked around town, she found herself at Pine Valley Hospital looking into Brianna's room. She detested Marty's happiness over Brianna's successful surgery from aplastic anemia.

As Greenlee watched outside Brianna's room, Zack encouraged Marty to take a break and head down to the hospital cafeteria for a quick bite. The nurse ensured a frazzled Marty that she would keep watch on Brianna while they were gone.

A half hour later, Zack and Marty came back to Brianna's room after their lunch to find that Brianna's crib was empty....
