Three days and Cato still sits beside the unconscious Jace. Not much had happened since the forest fire. Girl from Five and Boy from Three died, leaving Thresh and the duo left.
" Fuck," Cato sighs, looking out and into the pouring rain. It's so bad that he can barely see the tree a couple of feet from the entrance of the cave.
He hears a shuttering breath escape the unconscious girl, making him turn his head to her.
Ace's body shakes violently from the cold, however, her eyelids twitch before her orbs are staring at Cato.
" What the hell happened?"
" The Careers, Three Boy and Five Girl, and Rue died," Cato answers quietly, turning his head back to the entrance. " It's just me, you, and Thresh left."
Moment of tension pass before Jace drags herself beside Cato. She silently lays her head on his chest, Cato wrapping his arm around her instinctively.
Her arms go around his waist, as she hides her face in his chest. The sound of rainfall softens to the tension before it's broken by the sobs escaping Jace's lips. Cato comforts her silently, pulling her closer as his free hand lays on top of her hair, trying to force the tears in his eyes to leave.
