Training

That night I couldn't sleep. So much happened in just a short period of time. I was worried about my mother. If I just controlled my temper, then nothing would have happened, but on the other side things are better now since they accepted me in the pack as Seth his mate. I still had this feeling that I had to prove myself. I mean, Sam gave me a position in the pack, but I was just a pup comparing to the others. 'I will work hard to earn your trust.',  I thought, but I forgot that everyone in the pack could hear me. 'Zoë, we already like you', said Embry, who was making his last round in the forest, trough mindlink. 'Thank you Embry, I am sorry, I am still figuring out how this mind stuff works', I thought. 'Go back to bed, you're distracting us', said Paul, who was on patrol with Embry. I heard Embry chuckle in the back of my mind. I rolled my eyes. So, that is already one person in the pack who does not trust me with the pack stuff yet, I thought at myself, not using the mindlink.

A few minutes later I gave up my hopes on falling asleep. I turned the lamp on and looked around me. I still couldn't believe that some strangers would take me in, just because Seth and I are mates. I looked at my arm where I was hit by the bullet. I decided I wanted some painkillers. I mean I am a werewolf, but that doesn't mean I do not feel pain. Not to mention that I also fell out of a window. 'Oh man, what does Seth see in me', I thought at myself, really focusing on not using the mindlink. When I arrived in the bathroom I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked.. stronger.. somehow. 'Maybe I'm such a badass now because I shifted', I thought. I took some painkillers and walked back to my room. Suddenly I was pushed against the wall. I growled at the person who was holding me. 'Ssh, you will wake the alpha with all that noise', Leah said. 'Leah, what are you doing here?', I asked her, while trying to calm myself down. 'You know what, I don't like you', she said. 'What have I ever done to you Leah? Why are you so mad at me', I asked her. 'You guys stole my brother, first the pack and now you', she said angry. 'Leah we are mates, if you like it or not there is nothing you can do about it to change that. I really hope you will find your mate on day', I said to her. She kicked me in the stomach and I collapsed. 'What is wrong with you!', I said, also trying to control my breathing. 'This is not over Zoë, one day you will understand that I do all this for you, not to you.', she said smirking at me and then she left. I tried to contact her through mindlink, but I couldn't reach her. I decided not to tell anyone about this and I walked back to my room. 'I'll deal with Leah later'.

The next morning Sam and Embry were waiting for me in the woods. I was excited and a little nervous, because today was my first official training. 'Ok, today you will learn two things. One controlling your temper and two your stamina. Embry will help you with that, since you are his right hand and he must trust you to cover for him no matter what', Sam sad. I nodded. 'Ok for lesson one I'm going to pretend that I am your stepfather and you must try to not shift like your life is depending on it, because sometimes is does', Sam said. Sam bulled me for while and I did pretty good until Leah showed up. 'Sam let me handle her, you are way too soft', she said while she smiled at me in a mean way. 'I am not sure if that is a good idea Leah, she is just with us for a day..', Sam said, not really sure if he wanted Leah involved. 'I am sure I can handle her Sam', I said, not entirely sure if this was a good plan. 'It's payback time kiddo. Prepare yourself for lesson one.', Leah said to me through mindlink. I growled at her. 'So, Zoë how is your mother', she asked me. 'She is fine, as far as I know', I answered her question. 'Well I just called to the hospital and they said she is in a very bad condition', Leah said. 'You are lying'. 'No I am not, she has lost a lot of her blood', Leah said. 'I am sorry Sam, I know I am not ready, but I really want to visit her', I said to him. 'But you can't remember, because you have to train and you have to stay close to the pack, because they are your life now', Leah said. 'I am starting to think this is more about you Leah and not me', I said a little irritated. 'Leah that is enough', Sam said. 'Let's see how you handle a more direct approach', she said. 'You're mother is in this condition because of you, you are the reason she will be ugly for the rest of her life, you are not worthy to be like one of us', she said. 'Stop it you're lying', I said while my eyes where filling up with tears. 'You know a real wolf would fight it out', Leah said. 'That's it, I will beat you and I will make you regret that you talked to me like that', I thought. 'Zoë don't!', Sam told me but it was already too late. I shifted. 'I thought you would have survived a little bit longer', Leah said. I ran of in the woods. I heard Sam and Embry calling for me but I ignored them. I just wanted to be alone for a while. 'What if Leah is right'. 'Stop Zoë! Please come back it is ok you were trying not to shift for a long time', Embry thought. 'Yeah, but was it enough?', I thought back. I really wanted to see my mother, but I couldn't. Not when I was a wolf and not without any clothes. Suddenly another wolf ran into me. We bumped into each other and both rolled in a different direction. I looked at the wolf, hoping it was Seth, but it was Paul on patrol. I was expecting him to be mad, because I wasn't paying attention where I was running, but he wasn't. 'Come on, run with me it will make you better.', he said through mindlink. I nodded and I ran with him for a while. 'You know, it is ok to have a bad temper. I have one and that is why I have the most patrols, so I can use that energy for positive things', he said, trying to make me feel better. 'Thanks Paul, but I do not have a bad temper', I thought back. 'If you say so..'.

We ran next to each other for a while. When his shift was over I thanked Paul for the run and went back to Sam and Emily. When I arrived my tongue was on the right side of my mouth, which I bet looked funny, because I saw Seth and an old man who was walking next to him laugh. I walked away, controlled my breathing and changed for my wolf form to a human form with some clothes I had behind the bushes earlies that day. I walked back and gave Seth a big hug. 'Tough day huh?', he asked me. I nodded. 'Well son are you finally going to introduce me?', the man next to him asked. 'Oh sorry, Zoë this is my dad Harry, dad this is my mate Zoë', Seth said. 'Hello sir, it is an honour to meet you', I said politely and I shook his hand. 'Please just call me Harry and the pleasure is all mine. I haven't seen my son so happy in a while', Harry said. I could feel my cheeks burn up. 'Great now I am blushing, I bet I look like a giant tomato', I thought. 'Well, you are a super cute tomato', Seth thought back. 'Zoë would you like to join us for dinner tomorrow?', Harry asked me. 'Yes thank you, I can help in the kitchen if you want?', I answered. 'My wife would love that!', Harry said. 'Ok, thank you for the invitation'. 'No problem, now if you'll excuse me I have to drop off this fish I caught earlier today', Harry said and he walked to Sam who was waiting for him in the kitchen. 'So what have you been up to all day?', I asked. 'Well, I have done some homework and I helped my dad in his shop', he said. 'That sounds like a nice day. I had to control my temper and after that I was on patrol with Paul in the forest.', I told him. 'Nice! Too bad that I couldn't run with you on your first official patrol', Seth said with a little sad voice. 'Hi don't feel bad it wasn't my first official patrol.. I couldn't handle the situation anymore so I ran away and then I bumped into Paul', I said. 'Oh really! We can go on patrol together someday once you finished your training', he said. I smiled at him. 'Clearwater, you have a deal!', I said. Seth smiled at me like he was a little kid who just got some candy. 'Seth, are you coming? You promised your mother you would clean your room', Harry said while he was walking back to his car. 'Damn... I totally forgot about that', Seth said. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and jumped into his fathers car. I blushed a little and waved until they were out of my sight.

When I walked into the house I tried to sneak upstairs, but Sam was in the kitchen and he spotted me before I could even make it to the stairs. 'Zoë..', he started, but I interrupted him. 'Sam I am so sorry I let you down today, but there is just so much going on and I couldn't handle it anymore', I said. 'Ok, I was just about to say that it wasn't your fault and that I totally understand that you want to see your mother, but it is just so dangerous for you to go out there if you can't control yourself', Sam said. 'Please, just let me go with someone!', I begged him. 'I will think about it..', Sam said. I nodded at him and walked to my room. 'Pffff that went wayyyy better than I expected', I thought. I grabbed my pyjamas and took a quick shower. After the shower I went straight to bed and I slept like a rose for the rest of the night.
