Chapter 11: Snakes

     "Malgar", a young woman shaken from shock. Shadow Beast was able to stop a group of men from beating her to death.

     As she was comforting the women Mizuchi was leaning against a brick wall with his arms crossed, "I want to know how this is relevant for our case".

     "It's because of the territory. Battle used to own properties which are now taken over by Malgar. We get into these properties and maybe it'll lead us to our case", as I finished tying up the five men who beaten the woman.

     She lived in this giant public housing project that's overrun with gang members. The non-gang members living there feel they've been forgotten and the lawlessness in their community.

     Eventually the police and paramedics came but what surprised me was when I recognized one out of the two stepping out of black car.

     Three men walked in my direction, "Sgt. De Luca pleasure to see you again. How's Lucy and Gabriel?". "Kit. They're doing well and Gabe won't stop asking about you", he laughed.

     "I'll visit them as soon as I can", I said with glee. "Detective Joey Garcia and Junior Detective Brandon Cornell from the Homicide Division. This is their case. Brandon play nice", Sgt. De Luca looked at him.

     "Don't I always", Brandon smirked. Then Sgt.'s eyes turned towards me then nodded goodbye.

     "Who's the vic?", he looked at the women in a stretcher rolling to the ambulance.

     "Emma Blake. 26 years old. Single mom. She's a waitress Lavar's Dinner and lives on the third floor of this complex", as I pointed out.

     "This is the thirteenth case in the past two months. At least this vic isn't leaving in a body bag and we have to perps", Brandon crossed his arms.

    "Once you live here you die here". Detective Garcia looked at the building. I turn to him for an explanation but then they walked into the building for questioning.

     Every door we went to either wouldn't open or if they did the person wouldn't speak and had fear in their eyes. Eventually asking around she was seeing someone from a rival gang.

     I learned the reason behind the choice of detectives was because Garcia grew up in the complex.

     There are districts within Malgar's territory with appointed sub-leaders. With four districts total and the man were looking for is 'Snakes' or Darian Thompson. If we get him we're one step closer to the Lotus.

      Only few people have seen Malgar and his signature method was interesting. He would freeze his dead victims in an industrial freezer. When a body was dumped ice crystals would be found in the lungs of them. Subbing him as the 'Iceman'.

     A few days pass by and as I was researching more about 'Snakes' when my phone rang.

     It was Jess, "Hey what's up".

     "Turn on the news now", she quickly said.

     "Um ok", I pulled up the video. "An officer by the name of Joey Garcia was shot and killed today in the DT housing project. Sources have confirmed that it was in fact a set up. Will this violence ever end...", a blonde reporter said.

     I quickly grab the duffel bag with my suit and ran out the door.

     "How is he?", I made it to the crime scene.
