"What?" Ronnie asked in shock and slight anger, as soon as the party left the room. Allowing him and Caitlin to confront each other.
"I don't think we should get back together?" Caitlin repeated.
"Why?"
"A lot has happened in the past three years," she replied softly.
"I'm sure a lot has, but I doubt it's anything that would make me stop loving you. Because nothing would," Ronnie said.
"No Ronnie, you don't get it..." Caitlin trailed off.
"What don't I get Caitlin?" Ronnie asked, "did you stop loving me?"
"No, Ronnie..."
"Then why, Caitlin, why?"
"I-," Caitlin stuttered struggling to get words out.
"We were married, kind of, Caitlin. We were in love and talking about life together, a family. I wanted to give you a proper wedding. I wanted to give you the world. What changed?"
Caitlin didn't respond, she only stood there silent, looking down at her feet.
Finally, she teared up. "I'm sorry... We just shouldn't. We can't..."
Ronnie looked at her, he never knew he could feel so angry and sad when looking at the love of his life. Without saying another word, he walked out of the cortex, leaving Caitlin alone.
Caitlin, broke out in silent tears, trying to make sure the rest of the team didn't hear her. The best she could, she left the building before anyone could find her.
..............................................................Caitlin didn't know where to go. If she went back home, Cisco would probably find her again. She thought about going to a bar, but she knew it that wouldn't be a good idea in her current emotional state. She just kept driving and driving, until she ended up somewhere outside of Central City where no one could find her. There were just trees and rocks, no fancy technology that could track her, no metahumans, nothing. Caitlin kept driving until she reached a nice cliff area that looked over the lake and forest. The sky was turning purple/pink as the sunlight faded away.
She just needed to get away, clear her mind.
WHY! she thought, Why?!
"Why does it have to happen again!? Why?!" Caitlin yelled out over the cliff, as the sound echoed back through the mountains. "Do you want to give him back to me just so I can lose him again!" she yelled, beginning to sob. "Fool me once, shame on you. But fool me twice, shame on me... Freaking fuck you universe!" she screamed kicking a stone over the edge of the cliff.
Caitlin let out all her emotions into the empty echoing cliffs, she had to do it somehow. Telling any of her teammates would just result in her getting a pep talk that gets her hopes up and then whatever powers of the world taking everything away from her again.
Their countless attempts have already shown Caitlin that their love will just keep ending up with her heartbroken. Was it really true that their love was fated to be constantly broken apart by the universe? Caitlin didn't want to find out again, she didn't want to get hurt again, she told herself if she did it would be too dangerous.
