Leaving

Mr. Quinn took off with Tony, and the rest of the school continued with our regular school day.  By lunch, more than half of the school were at the voting boxes, cramming in papers that obviously didn't fit. I kind of just smiled to myself, I was proud of what I did today. I stood up for what I believe and I made a change.

By the end of the day, the boxes were overflowing with papers. It was unbelievable. I was walking to my locker to get my phone and homework, and when I got there, someone dressed in all black was leaning against it.

"Um, excuse me, but this is my locker."

"Sorry," they said then mumbled, "lover boy."

"What the hell did you just call me?"

"Let me spell it out for you. L-O-V-E-R-B-O-Y, LOVER BOY."

"Get away from me Tony."

"Oh, it's not Tony. It's much worse than that." My eyes almost popped out of my head.

"Jessi?"

"You got it," He said, putting his hood down and slowly clapping. "congratulations."

"What do you you want?"

"Oh, nothing huge, just the kid."

"No. Never."

"We'll see about that," he snickered, turning away. He won't get the baby. I won't let him. He can't, because she's leaving this school.

"Josh, are you ready to leave? I heard Pay's voice.

"Yeah," I said calmly then mumbled, "forever."

~~~~~~Later That Night~~~~~~

We were all sitting on Pay's couch, watching lifetime movies when I decided to speak up.

"I need to talk to you Pay."

"What about?" she looked confused. Janet knew already and totally agreed with me.

"So, I think you should leave school. Do online classes. It's less stress and less shit you have to deal with. I'll pay for everything."

"What do you mean by "you"?"

"I'm not leaving SugarDale. You and Janet are."

"No. I'm only leaving if you are."

"Pay-"

"No Josh. You've made all these hard choices for us, well now it's my turn. If you leave, then I will."
