Chapter 1

11 years later

Zedra Waterxia was about as normal as you could get being a child raised in Seabend. She had short red hair and sea blue eyes. She was homeschooled and worked in the local Seabend market selling jewellery.

"Hey Dunrik!" Zedra yelled from her bike as she rode along the back path of the market. She suddenly came to a hult and rested her bike along the wall of the shop tent.

" Zed! You made it just in time, a whole bus of tourists have just stopped a tour and are going to come here for souvenirs." Dunrik said. Zedra immediately went to the shop's stand where everything was sold. She looked out the front of the shop and saw about 30 people walking into the market street from the east end.

"Bus coming from the east end!" Zedra cried, alerting other shops and tents to prepare for the rush of people coming in their direction. As soon as she had cried out that all the tourists would come, they came to all the shops and tents in the market street. A woman with short brown hair and green eyes wearing a tee shirt and jeans came up to Zed's tent, Seabend Jewellery. She looked at the seashell beads on the bracelets and necklaces.

"How much is this?" The woman asked, holding up a bracelet.

"That is three platies twenty," replied Zed, hoping the woman had converted her money to platies and brokvers.

"Sorry, but I may need some help with these coins, I've only been in Crotchet for two nights."

Zed sighed. "The gold ones are platies. The big ones are worth two platies, or dollars. The smaller ones are only worth one platie. The silver ones are brokvers. The smallest ones are only five brokvers, the next smallest ones are worth ten brokvers, the next smallest ones or the second biggest are worth twenty brokvers and the biggest ones are worth fifty brokvers. You'll probably only need coins here in the market street so you can get another shopkeeper to explain notes. All the notes have numbers on them anyway. Basically, the platies are dollars and brokvers are cents in most parts of the world. Do you get it now?" Zed asked.

"Yes, thankyou. I guess I should pay you now." The woman shifted her hand in her bag and pulled out some money.

"Thankyou. Come again!" Zedra waved the woman goodbye and served another woman.

"Excuse me, but how much is this?" A woman asked.

Here we go again, Zed thought. Another tourist bus and another hard day at work.

It was nearly dark when the tourist bus left and Zedra finally got to collect her pay and ride home. She rode back down the back path of the street market and onto the pebbled path leading to the houses. It was nice to ride in the sunset. She looked up at the sun and saw how beautiful it was. Not concentrating, she then rode into the front fence of her house.

"Ouch!" Zed cried as she landed head first over the fence. As she got up she saw a figure coming out of the house.

"What have you done this time, Zedra?" The figure said.

Oh, no, Zed thought. It's Aunt Dis.

"Well, I guess I should help you in. But I do expect that you have a reasonable answer for all this mess. You do know Dunrik is coming over tonight?" Zedra groaned. That mention she would probably have to fix the fence before he came. Aunt Dis then helped Zed up and then put her arm around her to help her walk. Aunt Dis then helped Zedra to sit on a chair at the dining table. She looked at her right hand and saw that it was bruised badly and was also bleeding bad in multiple places. She also grazed her knees.

"Aunt Dis, I'm so sorry I...I..." Zed couldn't tell Aunt Dis why she fell over the fence. It was too stupid.

"What did you do this time, Zed?" It was a new voice. Zedra looked up and saw her cousin Tedv standing in the hallway.
