Chapter 7
They arrived at a water cave an hour later. It was dark and gloomy and sent a shiver down Zed's spine. She was very pale and Aunt Dis became worried about her.
"Are you alright, dear?" She asked.
"This place gives me the creeps. So does that Redt guy." She turned pale at the mention of his name.
"It is a bit scary, and so is Redt. But you have to remember that he saved us and is bringing us to some kind of safety."
"But he has stolen stuff. That's my main worry about him."
"You have to get used to the fact that he's a thief. He gets people out of tight spots and into safety. No one knows much about him, apart from the fact to avoid him." Aunt Dis looked comfortable to be in the safety of Redt. Zed bit her lip but some of the colour returned to her face. She was still worried about Redt.
"We're here! All exits to the left or you will drop off the edge!" Redt shouted from the front of the bus. Zed turned pale again and she looked at Aunt Dis. She looked worried too. A door opened from the side of the bus. Everyone exited from it, so Zed decided to do the same. They walked to a cave that was furnished and clean. Zed, not knowing what was going on, was even impressed.
"The owner of this house will meet you in a few moments. She has volenteered to have you stay here, and I think she's cleaning it right now. Let me go and check for you." Redt walked into the cave and he dissapered in the blackness of it. Zed then started to shiver. She wished she had never left her house. All these things she was finding out was confusing and worrying her. Aunt Dis went over to Zed and put her arm around her neck. Without words, she ment that she was always with her, and she will help her to the best of her ability. Zed looked up at her and smiled at Aunt Dis. She smiled back as Redt returned from the blackness with a woman.
"Everyone, this is Maiden, and she will be providing you shelter and wonderful hospitality until you find the need to stay somewhere else." The woman smiled and waved at the company.
"It's nice to meet all of you," Maiden said.
She looks friendly, Zed thought. She needed another friendly face to help her grow back her confidence.
Just be careful what you say to her, Chell said. She may have a hidden personality. That made Zed lose a little confidence in Maiden. She started to shiver again. Aunt Dis looked at her and sighed. Then she whispered something to Dunrik. He sighed and also looked at Zed. She sighed too. Then they entered the cave. It was very dark in there, and Zed did not like it. There was moss covering the ground of the cake and seaweed hung from the walls. The cave was also furnished with stone couches and tables.
"To the left are the bedrooms you will be staying in for the next few days. I'll leave you in some peace to sort out the rooms." Maiden walked out of the hallway and Aunt Dis took charge of the situation.
"Zed and Tedv, you can sleep in that room and Dunrik and I will sleep in this room. Now go and set up the beds." Aunt Dis pointed to the room on the right side. Zed and Tedv went into the room to see that the beds were already set up. The matterss was a cotton sleeve filled with seaweed and the blanket was made of a fabric that was woven using seaweed.
After the company had dinner, they retired back to their rooms.
"Zed, to you like it here?" Tedv asked.
"Not in this cave, I don't. I'd rather be at home, or at the market." Zed sighed.
"What I ment was, do you like it here underwater?"
Zed turned pale. "Are we underwater?" Her voice was shaky.
"Yes. We've been underwater since we woke up in that concrete room. Didn't you know that?" Then Zed screamed. Aunt Dis and Dunrik rushed into their room. They looked worried.
"What's going on here?" Aunt Dis asked.
"We are underwater!" Zed looked very pale and she started to shiver again. Aunt Dis sighed and walked over to her. She put her arm around her neck to comfort her. Then she looked at Tedv.
"Dunrik, you can deal with Tedv. I'll look after Zed for a bit." She looked at her with a very worried expression on her face.
"Ok. Tedv, come here." Tedv obediently got up and went into the other bedroom with Dunrik. Once they had left Aunt Dis looked at Zed.
"I know that you're very worried, Zedra. You're getting all this information you don't want to hear and it's coming fast," Aunt Dis said in a comforting tone. It made Zed feel a little better and she stopped shivering. "Maybe you should go to bed. Goodnight Zedra." She hugged Zed and went into the other room. Zed rested her head on the matterss and immediately fell asleep. She had no idea what was going to happen the next day.
