Chapter 3

Zedra awoke several days later in a lot of pain. When she woke she saw Aunt Dis and Dunrik sitting on a chair beside her bed or whatever she was lying on. She looked at them and saw that they both looked very troubled. When they saw she was awake Aunt Dis got up and smiled. Zebra weakly smiled back at them. Then she closed her eyes again but Aunt Dis shook her awake again. Zed groaned and then Dunrik laughed.

"You have to get up, you sleepyhead. You've been sleeping for three days." Aunt Dis said. Dunrik laughed again and Zed groaned.

"Dis, don't forget to keep in mind that one, Zed doesn't have a brain and two, she wasn't really asleep. She was kind of unconscious." Dunrik stood up to Zedra's aid. Aunt Dis just smiled at Dunrik and then she nodded. Zedra then laughed. She had no idea what was happening or what had happened.

"So, what did you do this time?" Dunrik asked. Zed laughed again. Then she told Dunrik about how she fell off her bike and rolled down the hill. "And then I saw a figure arise from the water. Do you know who that was?" Dunrik looked at her and then he shook his head. "Anyway, what happened after that?" Dunrik sighed and sat back down again.

"There was a boy on the beach and when he saw you he recognised you and brought you to my shop. Then I took you here and that's about it." Dunrik didn't seem to worried about the fall Zedra had. Aunt Dis then walked the room. She had a bottle of medicine in her hands and when Zedra saw it she groaned. Aunt Dis and Dunrik then laughed.

"It's ok Aunt Dis. I really don't hurt too much," Zed pleaded. But she knew that nothing would change Aunt Dis' mind. Aunt Dis placed the big medicine bottle on a table next to the bed with a big bang. Then she poured some of the yellowish liquid into a cup and handed it to Zed.

"Here you go, Zedra," Aunt Dis said. Zed sighed. She opened her mouth and drank all the medicine in the cup. She swallowed it and then made a face.

"Blugghh!" She cried. "Aunt Dis, that medicine was the worst!" Aunt Dis and Dunrik laughed.

"On a more serious note, Zed someone must be with you at all times." Dunrik looked at Aunt Dis. "Discry, I need to talk to you."

"Ok. I'll send Tedv in." Then Aunt Dis walked out of the room, with Dunrik following. A few moments later Tedv walked in with a big drawing pad under his arm.

"I'm going to draw a portrait of you. Could you please lie on the bed like you're sleeping? Thanks," Tedv said. Zed sighed and layed back on her bed.

This is going to be a long day, Zed thought. Then she sighed again.

It was three days later when Zed could get out of bed but she wasn't allowed outside and Dunrik filled her place at the shop.

Two days after she could get out of bed Dunrik arrived to talk to Aunt Dis and Tedv. "Tedv, you must stay here and watch Zedra," Aunt Dis said. She refused to leave Zedra alone.

"But Mum, I want to hear your conversation with Dunrik. Can't we just leave Zed on her own a bit? I'm sure it's not that serious. Please, please, please Mum. Let me talk with you!" Tedv always wanted to be with Dunrik and Aunt Dis when they talked together. But Aunt Dus just shook her head and went down to the basement. Looking defeted, Tedv slumped down in a chair at the kitchen table.

"I'm nearly 18. Can't I make my own choices yet?" Tedv's birthday was next week and he was getting excited about it. It always seemed his excuse for making his own choices. He sighed and rested his head on the table. Zed knew exactly how he felt.

It was later that night when they started making plans for Tedv's birthday party.

"Tedv, this is your 18th birthday. We should really have a big family because this is very important in the..." Aunt Dis looked at Zed. "So we should have a party with all your friends and family. It would be great to see them all again." Aunt Dis suggested. "What about Zed?" Asked Dunrik, looking at Aunt Dis.
