Chapter 5
Zed's alarm woke her up the next morning. She groaned as she sat up and got dressed. She was very tired from the party but she had to go to work that morning. She hoped that no tourists would come so she would have an easy shift.
"Come on, Zedra! You'll be late if you take any longer!" Aunt Dis shouted up the stairs. Zed groaned and slumped down the stairs.
"I'm here. Aren't you tired?"
"Yes, but I am organised. Of you go now, take your bike and please don't fall off it again. Say hello to Dunrik for me!" Aunt Dis shouted from the front door as Zed road away. She yawned as she rode to the market.
As she rode to the market she concentrated on the road so she didn't fall off her bike again. When she got to the back path of the stalls, she realised that it was closed.
What a bummer! Zed thought.
Go through the market, came Chell, the voice in her head.
Why? Zed asked but Chell was gone. So, as Chell had said, she got off her bike and guided it through the market. She was guiding it past a pet stall when something caught her eye. It was a fish! It was beautiful. It's blue purple scales shined in the morning sun and seemed to recognise Zed as she walked past. So she walked up to the stall and saw the fish in more detail. It was adverage in size, and it was put in a jar so people could take the fish home.
"Excuse me, but how much is this fish?" Zed asked the shopkeeper.
"That fish is four platies twenty. Would you like it?"
"Yes please," Zed opened her bag and pulled out some coins and handed it to the shopkeeper.
"Thank you. Come again!" The shopkeeper gave Zed the jar and then Zed guided her bike to Dunrik's jewellery shop where she went around the side of the tent and parked her bike.
What should I do with the fish? She thought. She hadn't owned a fish before.
Leave it here. It will be fine, said Chell. So Zed left the fish in the front basket of her bike and went into the tent to find Dunrik there.
"What took you so long?" He asked.
"They closed off the back path so I had to go through the market."
"Ok. Some people have just arrived. You better go serve them." Without saying anything, Zed went to the front of the tent to serve people. So far, no one had come to the stall. Then Zed felt a particular burning on her chest. She felt it and the pendant of her necklace was red hot. She pulled it out from under her shirt and layed it on top of her shirt and inspected it. It didn't look any different, but it felt different. She touched it again and felt a sudden surge released from the pendant. Then, most of the people in the market rushed towards the stall. They were all wearing black cloaks and their skin was very slimy and an off green colour. They all then looked at Zed and then at her necklace.
"Are you Zedra Waterxia?" One of the cloaked figures asked.
Don't say anything, Chell said. So Zed didn't respond to the woman.
"Are you Zedra Waterxia?" Another one of them asked. This time it was a man. Zed then started to back away.
"Are you Zedra Waterxia?" Came another voice. Zed then ran out of selling area and into the storage part of the tent.
"Dunrik! There are people out there asking if I was Zedra Waterxia!" Zed almost shouted at Dunrik.
"Did you answer them?"
"No."
"Good. Now ride back home as fast as you can. Don't let anything stop you and explain to your aunt what's happening. Tell her that I'll be there soon. Now go!" Without question, Zed grabbed her bike and rode down the back path of the shops. She was riding very fast, and didn't have time to realise that it was closed. She rode past the closed sign and onto the pebbled path leading to the house. Then she rode down the front path fo her house and barged into her house.
"Aunt Dis! There were people at the market asking if I was Zedra Waterxia! Dunrik said to come straight here so I did he also told me to tell you that he was going to come soon." Zed shouted at Aunt Dis.
"Zedra, slow down. Sit here and tell me exactly what happened." Aunt Dis said in a calming voice. So Zed sat down at a kitchen chair and told Aunt Dis everything that had happened, right from when she had left the door that morning to go to work.
"So I rode here as fast as I could, ignoring the closed sign at the bottom of the path that goes down the back of the tents." Zed finished. Aunt Dis looked very pale and bit her lip.
"Tedv, come down here. We need to hold a meeting." Aunt Dis called. She was looking at Zed with a very worried expression on her face. Tedv then came down the stairs and looked at Aunt Dis. Seeing her worried expression, Tedv started to look worried too. Then there was the sound of a door opening. Aunt Dis immediately got up to see who was at the door. But it was only Dunrik.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you." He looked at Aunt Dis and Tedv's worried faces. "What should we do? The time is nearly here, but they've already found us." Aunt Dis sat back down in a chair, thinking thoughtfully.
"No, not yet. Just watch her, but don't tell her anything yet. The time is not right." He paused, thinking. "I'll go down there and see what's happening and what is best for her." Aunt Dis turned even more pale. She now looked like a sheet.
"Dunrik! It's too dangerous. I won't let you go down there." She stood up to her defence.
"I have to. It's the only way."
"What if something happens while you down there, to us or her? You're the strongest out of all of us, and you could save us."
"You'll be all right. I'll leave tonight, and I'll hopefully only be gone for one day." At that point, Aunt Dis looked like she was going to cry.
"Please, don't go." She whispered. A single tear ran down her cheek.
"Don't worry, Dis. I'll be fine." He went over to her and put his arm around her neck to support her. Zed, still trying to work out what was happening, bit her lip and turned very pale. Her eyes also started to water, feeling Aunt Dis' pain. She turned to look at Tedv, who was sitting in the couch slumped over with his head in his hands. He also looked very grieved. Just then there was a loud bang. Someone had smashed he door. Then a figure appeared in the hallway.
"Bind them," the voice said. A massive figure came towards Zed and held a cloth to her mouth and nose. She heard Aunt Dis scream and Zed tried to do the same, but she only saw black.
