The next morning, Adeline and I got to the palace. Elijah, mother, and father were all sitting in the dining area eating the afternoon meal. I came into the room with Adeline. Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared. Elijah put on a dirty look. He put down his fork and stood up.
'What is she doing here?' asked Elijah.
'Mother and father! I have offered Adeline to stay here with us from now on!' I yelled.
My father stood from his chair with a look of frustration on his face.
'No! She can not. My palace isn't a hotel. No random person can just walk in and make themselves at home!' yelled King Ivan.
'Father, please! Her house was set on fire last night and both of her parents perished. She needs a place to stay and a proper memorial put together!' I yelled.
I looked at mother. She wasn't saying anything.
'Mother, please. Let her stay.' I pleaded.
She looked at father and then back at me. She stood from her chair.
'I thought I had guards over there last night!' said Queen Elenor.
'Yes, but they said they only guarded the front of her home!' I yelled.
'Fine. Let her stay, but not forever. I will have the maids fetch her a room and put together a memorial service.' she said.
I smiled and hugged Adeline. Father turned to mother with a sad look.
'Is this really a good idea? I don't want to have a bunch of people from the village start thinking that they can just march in and stay here.' said King Ivan.
'It will be just for a little while. Until we find her a new place to live.' said Queen Elenor.
Mother motioned for a maid to find Adeline a room. Father and mother walked off to make arrangements for the service. Elijah was still standing at the table. He started walking towards us. He stopped in front of Adeline and pointed his finger to her chest.
'Don't ever think that just because you are staying here, means that you are one of us.' said Elijah.
He walked off to his room. I led Adeline to my room and offered her to sleep in my bed for a while.
'Sleep here. You have been through a lot.' I said.
'Thank you, Liam.' Adeline said.
It didn't take her long to fall asleep. I sat down at the end of my bed and closed my eyes.
'Liam... Liam! Come on, get up!' Queen Elenor yelled.
I slowly opened my eyes.
'W... what? What is it?' I asked.
'Come on! It is time for the memorial service. All the people in the village are here in the palace garden! You've been sleeping for a few hours. Get Adeline up!' Queen Elenor said quickly.
I got up and went to Adeline. I shook her shoulder. Her eyes opened slowly.
'Adeline, let us go. It is time for the service.' I said.
She slowly got up. We got to the royal garden and saw two tombstones in the garden and they had flowers of every color everywhere around them. It was a hot and sunny day. The sun shining on the flowers made them glow brightly. The whole village was gathered around. We came and stood next to my father, my mother, and Elijah, who were all dressed in their finest clothes. I stood next to Elijah. The service began. The priest was speaking. I leaned over to Elijah secretly.
