? POV:
"Let's find out how much she understands." "Fine." He walks over to me and bends over in front of me, resting his hands on his knees, I resist a growl. One side of his lips is curled up "Hey doggie, do you work for HYDRA? One bark for yes, two barks for no."What's HYDRA?
I tilt my head to one side and he makes the noise I've heard a few times, he then looks over his shoulder at the others "See, she doesn't know anything. She's just a stupid dog."
How dare you!
I growl and bark at him a few times, he shuffles away from me, his eyes wide, the nice man speaks "I think she just proved against you." He approaches me with his hands out in front of him, I stop growling and lay my head down next to my front paws "See? She's smart." The man who insulted me scoffs and I glare at him "Alright, pooch, do you like HYDRA?" Again I tilt my head to the side, not knowing that word, the nice man seems to notice "Maybe she doesn't know who she's been kept by. How about..." They keep asking me questions, most of them thoroughly confuse me, they use words I've never heard of, but a couple questions I answer confidently. We've been going for a while and I'm getting tired, I'm struggling to keep my eyes open, especially since I'm so comfortable.
NATASHA POV:
We start discussing questions to continue asking, we need to get some answers and the wolf hasn't given us many. I look over at the wolf, to see her eyes close and her head drop. I speak quietly "We'll have to leave the questions for now." They all follow my line of sight, to see her sleeping form. Since it's getting late, everyone heads to bed. Bruce and I are the last humans left in the living room, Bruce speaks "I think I should stay here, for when she wakes up." I can see how tired he is, so I push him towards the elevator "I'll stay, you sleep." The doors close before he has a chance to retaliate, I head to the kitchen, make myself some coffee and sit by the wolf.I'm scrolling through my phone when I hear a whining, I look to the wolf to see her kicking her legs about. I cautiously walk over.
Is she having a nightmare or something? Do wolves get nightmares?
I don't know whether I should wake the wolf up or not, something in me is telling me it's the nice thing to do, but it's also a huge risk, so I decide not to. When the wolf wakes up, panting and trying to get up, I head over. She growls and snaps at me "Hey, you're alright now, you're safe." She stops growling and glances around. She looks back to me and pushes herself to her feet, growling again. I freeze.
One wrong move and this could be a huge mistake. Dont. Move.
I stay silent and still as she gets closer to my face, she stops when her snout is just a few centimetres from my nose. I can feel and smell her breath. Her blue eyes stare into mine and it's strange, it's as if I'm looking into the eyes of another person, not a wolf. I wouldn't admit this if I was asked directly, but I'm scared, she could easily outrun me if I try to escape, even whilst injured. Even through my fear, I keep my cool on the outside, looking her in the eye and not cowering. She stops growling and tilts her snout down, gently headbutting me, I catch myself with my arms.
That went... well. I think I just made a friend.
