Scarlet felt like she was dying inside, her heart literally felt like it had been ripped in half. Deep inside she knew that what had happened gave her a moment of clarity. She loved Elijah dearly and she always would but did she really want to be his mistress forever? It would be heavenly to have him all to herself but that was never going to happen he had plenty of times to prove how much he loved her and leave his wife but he had never taken the leap. So that alone should have shown her that she was never anything more than his dirty little secret. Scarlet was trying to finish up her work at the shop before she could go home but because her mind was all over the place she wasn’t concentrating and managed to stick a pin in her finger, she swore loudly and pulled her finger away as the blood formed a tiny dot where the needle had caught her.

“God damn it Elijah!”

The three other members of staff all looked up towards the back of the store where Scarlet was working on a new suit. They looked at each other wondering if they should approach her or not, they had heard her conversation with Elijah or rather her statement to him.

“Urggg, you Mikaelson men and your bloody secrets, first Kol and now your brother Elijah.”

The elder of the three men headed towards where Scarlet was, he was probably the closest out of all of them to her, he knocked on the wall around the corner from where Scarlet was.

“Hi, it’s Marcus…”

He peeped around the corner to see Scarlet sitting staring at the suit she was working on with pure fury painted across her face. She looked up and smiled at Marcus, he was a sweet man and they shared lots of secrets with each other. Sure he was a bit older than she was but 45 was hardly old.

“Sorry, do we have customers in the shop?”

Smiling Marcus pulled a stool up and sat down.

“Nah, its fine just us lot, are you okay sweetheart? I heard you shout at him earlier, is it that bad?”

Scarlet placed the suit on her workbench and looked up into his blue eyes.

“Why can’t all men be like you?”

Marcus laughed as he took hold of her hand in his.

“Maybe because they aren’t all gay.”

Scarlet smiled at him and laughed.

“You’ve got me there, why couldn’t Elijah be more like you?”

Marcus raised an eyebrow at her.

“Revisit my last point.”

“I have no luck with men at all. Look what happened to Kol and then his dashing elder brother came to ‘rescue’ me… Thank God there aren’t any more Mikaelson brothers.”

They both smiled at each other and fell into a comfortable silence. Having a gay friend was at times better than a girlfriend.

“Right I suggest tomorrow you take the day off and what about taking your wonderfully creative mind on a trip to The French Quarter. Think of all the fabrics and ideas you can get there, get out of this boring place for a little while and see how the others have their fun.”

Scarlet didn’t need any more persuading she was sold on the idea, plus it would be a kick in the teeth for Elijah as he always told her it was no place for her to be and she knew damned well he lived and worked around there. If he saw her he would be furious, that thought made her smile. Even having a quiet day somewhere she was not supposed to be would be exhilarating, it would be better not to see Elijah as she wasn’t sure she was strong enough to stick by her guns.
