“This is a good book. You should read it and after you had finished reading it, tell me what you’ve learn from it” Harry said while tapping the book cover in front of her.
Harry is one of their tutor since they are not allowed to go outside because ‘its too dangerous’ they said. His an old man who once been a college professor but something happened . I don’t know what is.
But anyway, he’s really good at this. Literature is her thing, She loved the way the author view his characters and the twist and turn of the story.
‘ okay’ she mumbled softly. The book cover felt rough against her fingertips. It looks old but also looks well kept.
“Uhm, How many chapters should I read first?”
It was the first time he had given her a very thick book. Usually the books she analyze only consist of a few chapters and pages. There’s no way she can be able to finish it just for a few hours. And.. he made it like an assignment, not a seat work or something.
‘Hah! Even Megan can’t make it'
His eyes wrinkled and lips smiled down at her. “Just read what you can. We cannot something that we are not yet ready of”.
“……-and realized that we should be the one making our own decision because only ourselves can understand what we really desires”. Her eyebrows knitted together as she concentrated in explaining what I had learned so far.
Harry watched her unnervingly. He’s squinting his eyes and tapping his white wrinkled hands on the table. She felt really nervous whenever he looks at her that way. As if she shouldn’t make anything wrong or there will be consequences.
She pinched her fingers to reduce the numbing feeling. Arms were hid behind her back as she waited patiently to his comment.
She took a deep breath. Why won’t he say anything at all? He was just observing her under his thick glasses without any expression. Is he bad or something?
Or maybe, I said something wrong. She forced herself from remembering what she had said but failing miserably.
Why does she always forget about things. This is starting to rub her off the wrong way.
She sighed when a smile started to form in the old man’s face. His face lit up as if seeing something he had been searching for in her expression. He nodded his head in approval and closed the book in front of him then handed it to her.
“Hmm, You’re improving. That’s great”. He stood up and fixed his jacket. “ I’ll let you keep that book so you can read it on your free time. You seem had a liking with that one. But, be sure not to fold any of those pages.”
“And …Faith?” He called her behalf to the door.
“Yes?”
“Don’t let anyone decide your own destiny.” He told her seriously.
“Don’t worry, I won’t”.
Harry is one mysterious man. He really looked strict and scary most of the time. The way he stared at someone in the eyes made anyone unable to tell a lie.
Sonny is scared of him. He kept out of his sight whenever he’s here.
She, herself felt uneasy when he stared at her like that. As if looking in her eyes if she’s really telling the truth.
Maybe that is one reason she liked him. And he gives amazing advices too.
She stacks her books together. It was her usual routine after her classes for the day. This is also her way to regain her composure after a tiring day.
