This was her first heat without Malcolm in fifteen years. They had been together for almost their entire lives. They had met in kinder school long before they had presented their dynamics when he had stopped a bigger kid from pulling her long blond hair. She'd had tears slipping down her cheeks when a shadow had fallen over her, and the pressure on her scalp had immediately disappeared.

Selah had watched as Malcolm chased off her bully. When he returned to her, he had wiped her tears from her face. From that day on, they'd been inseparable. She and Malcolm both came from Beta parents. Selah had begun to envision a future where she and Malcolm would settle into a Beta lifestyle with the requisite 2.5 Beta children, the white picket fence, and rocking chairs on the porch. When Malcolm shockingly presented as an Alpha all of her dreams came crashing down.

Alphas don't mate Betas. Sure, they'd fuck them because Omegas were still the minority of all the dynamics and because there were all types of laws and customs surrounding mating an Omega, but they wouldn't mate them.

Over the next year, Malcolm bulked up and went from a few inches taller than her to towering over her tiny frame by a foot and a half. They fought to keep their friendship, but it was a losing battle. He had been accepted into the ranks of the other Alpha students in secondary school. He tried to stay close to all of his Beta friends, but between the new opportunities his Alpha status opened up and his raging hormones, he drifted further and further away from them. Watching him become enthralled with the few Omegas at their school had been torture so she tried to just let him go.

Reeling from losing her dream future, Selah faced another personal crisis. At 17, she still hadn't officially presented a dynamic. She was obviously not an Alpha, but her expected Beta dynamic couldn't be proven either. Because her mother was growing increasingly concerned, they tested her from the Omega dynamic. Those tests were confusing as well. They didn't prove she was an Omega, but they didn't prove she WASN'T either. It left her in a strange limbo, and her mother's obvious distress only added more pressure. Her father was her only beacon of calm. He soothed her with this odd little hum that he'd been doing since she was born. He simply rubbed her hair and said that she'd find her way.

Then two days after her 18th birthday, it struck.

Some people have nightmares where they go to work naked. Some imagine they're falling only to jerk awake with a pounding heart. Some of her friends dreamed they forgot all the answers on the test.

Selah's nightmare turned into a reality? Definitively presenting her Omega dynamic by suddenly and violently going into her first heat in the middle of a government class.

A sudden cramp across her lower abdomen and the rush of slick expelling from her body brought the class to a standstill. Slick audibly splashed onto the floor with the next wave, and Selah couldn't stifle a cry of both shock and pain.

Of course, the Alpha students in the room reacted first. Chairs scraped across the tile floor as both male and female Alphas leapt to their feet. Noses in the air, nostrils flaring as they took in the novel scent of Omega heat, they turned their heads towards Selah, and she shuddered as their gazes turned predatory.

As soon as juvenile Alphas presented their dynamic, they began training. Classes included how to properly treat an Omega, Omega physiology, and Omega social needs. Malcolm had divulged that they'd spent an entire week on the nesting habits of Omegas. However, the hardest and most intensive training was in controlling their Alpha tendencies. Alphas were naturally physically stronger and more dominant. They had an ability to calm an Omega with their purr, bring forth arousal with a growl, and even overpower a submissive Omega with just their voice. Their very nature meant that they could easily abuse their power over Omegas and anyone else who wasn't an Alpha. This was especially true of an Omega in estrous.
