Waking up half-wedged under Malcolm's bulk, Selah managed to wiggle free of his embrace without disturbing him. That alone was a testament to his exhaustion. Usually, Malcolm would grip her tighter and nuzzle into her body before asking where she was running off to, but today, he'd barely even grumbled as she'd shoved at him to get out from under his mass to head off to the shower.
After a refreshing shower where she was able to scrub off the dried layers of slick and cum that clung to her, she felt her energy rising even as her pussy, breasts and ass were sore and aching. Using the towel to squeeze more water out of her long hair, Selah walked from their master bathroom into their bedroom. The large room decorated in subtle earth tones had always calmed her nerves, and she took a deep breath of the clean air that circulated around the space. After the pheromone saturated air in the safe room, her senses were grateful for the respite.
It was a curse of biology, but while Omegas were slaves to their heat, they also recovered extremely quickly. She knew that some Alphas referred to it as a "heat hangover" because afterward the Alphas could barely get the energy to get out of bed while their Omegas were up and bouncing with energy.
Selah suffered during her heat, but she was always up and moving way before Malcolm. Once, when they'd only been mated a year, she'd thought he'd still be passed out so she'd gone out food shopping leaving Malcolm to sleep it off in their nest. He'd woken to find her gone and had promptly, in a very Alpha way of course, panicked. Her phone had pinged with a text message. She'd pulled it out and noticed that she'd missed several text messages and calls from Malcolm, but before she could message him, her phone had started emitting a loud, high-pitched shrieking sound that had made the nearby Betas clutch their ears in irritation and pain.
A female Alpha from another aisle had come tearing around the end of the row with a scary look of determination on her face. When she'd reached Selah, she'd taken her phone out of Selah's stunned hands, and while punching a code into the phone had demanded, "Omega! Are you hurt? In distress?"
"Wh-what? No, I'm fine! What is that noise?" Selah had raised her voice to be heard over the noise still coming from her phone. Naturally, the alarm ended just as she reached the last word so that her voice was heard by everyone in the vicinity.
"I'm an officer of the OSF. If you're in distress, you can tell me safely," turning a suspicious gaze to the two Beta males who had been unfortunate enough to be nearby when the commotion started, the Alpha female narrowed her gaze in unspoken threat.
"No, really! I was perfectly okay until my phone started sounding like an air raid horn. What the hell is going on?"
The Alpha turned back to Selah allowing the Beta males to make good on their escape once she turned her eyes to the Omega in front of her. Her gaze left Selah's again and shifted to the end of the row where a female Omega came around the corner at a jog.
"Damnit, Telia! You know I can't keep up with you! I turned from the cakes to see you disappearing around the corner. I know you hate your birthday, but -" the newcomer broke off as she drew close to Selah and the Alpha she'd named as Telia, "What's going on?"
"Ashlyn. You seriously didn't hear the alarm that went off? Really?"
"I was focused on the cakes."
"That alarm is loud enough to be heard two stores over. What have I told you about being aware of your surroundings?"
"But...cake."
Selah watched with a growing smile as the obviously mated couple stared each other down in the middle of the aisle of groceries. She hid her smile as the Alpha let out a huff of resigned annoyance before turning back to Selah.
