The Omega Security Force had been so impressed with Malcolm's control that they'd offered him a position as soon as they'd graduated. For 15 yrs, she and Malcolm had worked as a team along with other Alpha/Omega couples. Of course, the Alphas were the enforcers and the protectors of the group, but Selah and her fellow Omegas were the heart and soul. The Alphas would be the first onto the scene to assess the threat level, and when the coast was clear, the Omegas would take whatever poor Omega needed assistance into their care and keeping.
Selah had never seen another presentation quite like hers, but she and her Alpha had been called to many scenes where an Omega presented unexpectedly or had been triggered into heat in an unsafe environment. The OSF also handled any criminal activities with Omegas both with them as the victims and as the perpetrators. Jail was never a safe place for Omegas so the OSF dealt with them until they appeared in front of the magistrate. Alphas were often dealt with harshly, but Omegas were usually sent to the House. Selah hated the House, but prison wasn't an option for Omegas and it seemed like the House did its job. Few Omegas ever had to go back a second time.
She and Malcolm had been trying for young for several years. When they were first mated, she took the contraceptives that had given Omegas a huge measure of freedom. They were young themselves and wanted to enjoy each other before they started a family. Ten years into their marriage, they decided to abandon the drugs and start their family. Five years had passed, and now after a heat, Selah's nest was wet with tears as her womb continued to be empty. Malcolm wanted a family, but as he continually showed and reassured her, as long as he had his Omega, he was happy. Selah was as in love with Malcolm as ever, but her heart hurt with loneliness and guilt. She had waited longer than most Omegas to start a family. Was this a punishment? Had she done something wrong?
This heat. This heat was supposed to be different. They had been approved for a new medicine that was supposed to increase their chances. As a side effect, it would also increase her heat cycle in both intensity and duration. Selah enthusiastically agreed, but Malcolm took a little more convincing. His first priority, as always, was to see to the health of his Omega.
"I have concerns," Malcolm addressed the doctor sitting in front of them.
"Mal-" he cut her off.
"Selah," he paused until she looked at him. " I will not put you at risk. Not for anything. I will not allow this if it is unsafe."
"We have made it as safe as possible and followed all the safety protocols. The only side effect is that her next heat will be more...intense," the doctor tried to reassure the worried Alpha.
"Intense? How?"
"It will be longer in duration. The cramping will be more painful as well, but with you there to take care of her, you really shouldn't notice a significant difference. The real concern might be yourself, Malcolm. We've had several Alphas report that their mates were...insatiable."
Malcolm said nothing but stared at the doctor. The doctor, an Alpha herself and used to other Alphas trying to intimidate her, said nothing back but met his gaze unflinchingly. God save her from Alpha males, she thought to herself reminded again of why she enjoyed her dynamic.
"Malcolm, please. Please, Alpha...please," the last being said so quietly that he would have missed it without his enhanced hearing. Looking over at her, he felt her squeeze his large hand with both of her tiny ones. It took both of her hands to wrap around one of his large ones. Staring into her bright blue eyes that were shining with hope, he felt himself give in to her pleading.
The treatment would work with her next natural heat cycle in three months. A month from their appointment, Malcolm took an excited Omega for her injection. A month after that, Malcolm was gone - forever.
