"Jace, go away."
That was Sean O'Malley, current heartthrob of the school. And God, I couldn't get him off my mind. Honestly, with that flaming hair and those absolutely sexy abs, there was no way I wasn't attracted.
Right now, he was trying to push me away from him. I was hanging over his shoulder as he showed a bunch of the other 'jocks' some photos from the last football game. Did I mention Sean played football? No, well he does. And looks amazing while doing it.
"I just want to see," I mumbled, and Sean sighed before moving the phone so I could see better.
"Why don't you make the twit just go and sit in the showers?" Corey asked. I might've liked the guy as a friend if it wasn't for his ego…and the sheer lack of intelligence.
"Because he wasn't doing anything wrong," Sean replied coolly. See! He was defending me. This meant he had to like me even a little.
"He's a living, breathing wrong," Daniel hissed before heading for the showers.
"Hey, hey, be open-minded." Sean stowed the phone away and glanced at me, though there wasn't much friendly in his eyes.
"Dan's right. Just go away, alright? I can't be seen with sci-fi freaks, especially you."
That hurt, just a bit. I stalked around the library with a few books already under my arm. Most were sci-fi, with some fantasy mixed in. Hefting them higher under my arm, I glanced at the bookshelf to my right and removed a book, juggling it as I read the back. Uninterested I shoved it back in. Or I would have, if someone's arm hadn't reached around me right then.
"'Scuse me," Sean mumbled as his chest pressed against my back. I was sure this was as close to a hug as I was ever going to get. My head barely passed his collarbone and I felt short in his presence.
"N-no matter," I gulped, nearly dropping my books. Squirming I shoved the book in my hand back in the bookshelf and tried to turn around. Somehow, I ended up pressed against the wooden shelf with Sean's eyes boring into mine.
"What are you doing?" he asked cautiously.
I ignored him, instead using the silence to let my books tumble to the ground and place my palms against his chest. Sean's skin was warm beneath his thin polo and I smiled hesitantly, afraid to do more.
"What are you doing?" he asked again, though his voice was just as doubtful as my smile.
"Giving in," I replied snappily. Reaching up on my tiptoes, I tilted my head and grinned ruefully.
"Figures, that if I don't do this now, I'll never get another chance." I pressed my lips to his gently. They were soft and pliable with shock, parting under my touch. Expecting to be shoved away or beaten for such a blatant deviance from the social rules, I jumped when I felt Sean wrap his arms against me as well.
"Kind of glad you did," Sean whispered as he lifted his lips away. Then, with a passion that surprised me, he kissed me fondly one more time.
And there I proved myself, or whoever quoted it, right; 'Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.
