Since Friday, many eager fans of Peele's work in his directorial debut movie Get Out in 2017 went ballistic after seeing his next project. 'Us' isn't directly linked to Get Out, but many have drawn parallels and frequently called it the follow-up. It follows the Winston family through a vacation-turned-dystopia thrill ride as they face off their menacing doppelgänger counterparts.
I'm in the minority when I say I prefer Us to Peele's first film, which seemed like a disjointed mosh, with some clever bits in hiding. Whereas Us has more of an identity, and uses that to its advantage to mark the first true horror of 2019. Sorry, Happy Death Day 2U, but this one takes the cake.
Also, props to Michael Abels for making a 90's song about buying drugs sound really creepy. Those four string plucks are seriously memorable.
