An Apology and a Choice...

Max's POV

I was walking down the hallway with Pepsis in my arms. I wanted to see if David wanted something to drink. But when I got to the door I heard their conversation.

"Daniel, it took a lot of guts to admit all that. I forgive you Daniel. I am pretty sure Max does too. otherwise he'd still be sour at you." What the hell does he think? I'm still sour...

"I wanna stop." What? He wants to stop what?

"What?"

"I want to stop trying to 'salvage humanity'. I don't want to follow Xeemug if it means hurting you and Max. Or losing you." So... He wasn't lying after all...

"I'll help you through it." I opened the door and walked in. I gave them each a Pepsi and opened my own climbing up in between them. I sat down and looked up at Daniel taking a swig of my Pepsi. My face went red as I thought about what to say. I have to apologize...

"Daniel... I-I..." I sighed and just came out with it. "Look... I've been kind of an asshole. I was always ready to fight you if you hurt either of us... I was preparing for something that I thought was your plan the whole time. But then you killed my pa- Lilith and Kaiden. You wouldn't have done that if you didn't care. I get that now... So I guess I overheard some of that conversation since everyone is being touchy feely I wanted to apologize for being a dick." He smiled at me. It wasn't that creepy ass smile he used when he was angry it was soft and fatherly. David was practically bursting with emotion. Fucking softie. We all decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. I asked if we could stop by Preston's house and see if he could come walk with us and they said yes. So we walked down the street and up Preston's steps. He was home and was able to walk with us so we all took off toward the school. David began telling a story about how 'he was a ready school goer just like ourselves.' I rolled my eyes and Preston laughed. He slipped his hand into mine and my face got hotter than ever. David once again thought I was sick and started feeling my forehead for a fever. Daniel cooed and chuckled. We walked Preston back home and headed back home ourselves. When we got into the door we all started up the stairs but then there was a knock on the door.

"I'll get it!" David yelled.

David's POV

"I'll get it!" I yelled as I ran down the stairs thinking it was the pizza Daniel had secretly ordered to surprise Max. However, when I opened the door, "Uh... Hello officer. What brings you here?"

"We have come to look for this man." She said holding up a picture of my Daniel. "This boy was reported missing by his parents..." It was a picture of Max. "Poor kid..." She must've noticed my confused look. "If you know of their whereabouts please, we just want to ensure the child's safety."

"Hang on please Ma'am. MAX!" I yelled for Max to come downstairs hoping it would be just Max that came down. Daniel was coming down until he noticed my look I was trying to give to tell him not to come down here. I turned back to the officer with a smile while Max walked up th us. "Miss...Reba... Uh this is Max. Those people that called themselves his parents weren't very good to him. I took the liberty of taking him out of that environment by adopting him. They still try to make him go with them but legally I am now his guardian and won't allow it." I stated as a matter of fact.

"Is this true Max?" Officer Reba asked getting down to his level.

"Yeah it's true... They were the worst... I don't know what would have happened if my dads didn't rescue me from them." I wanted to cry because he called us his dads but kept calm in front of the officer.

"Alright one more question." She stood back up and faced me. "This other dad, does he care for this family he found?"

"Yes?" I was a little confused by the question but knew the answer. Earlier he made that clear.

"Okay, that's all I needed to know." She began to leave and then stopped raising her voice slightly. "If you see Daniel tell him that this better be his last transgression. And he better be glad I'm the one who found those bodies and came to investigate otherwise things might not have turned out so happy. Far as I'm concerned, he protected the boy from abusive parents and had to do something drastic in order for that to happen. You all have a good night and stay clean or I'll be back and won't be as nice about it." She winked at me then Max and walked away leaving us both with dumbfounded looks on our faces. We walked back inside and I rushed to his embrace and Max followed close behind. We just stood there laughing and crying at the fact that we just basically got pardoned for murder. That officer must have known Daniel was here... She just left... She made that choice. I guess I have one to make now too...

A/n So guess what. I am sad but also happy to announce that I will be finishing this story soon. Sad because of the support that you all have given to this story and it was fun to write this! I didn't honestly think I'd like writing this much but it is much more enjoyable when you're writing what you want. But happy because of how much effort and support was put into this. I have a question to ask you but it'll have to wait until the final chapter. I will be writing at least two more chapter and then marking this fanfiction as complete. Daniel, David, and Max have been through so much. So hows abouts we gives them a nice and happy ending, huh? ;) I'll try my best to get these last chapters to you soon.
