"Hi," said a beautiful girl standing in front of Audrey with an oversized bag and a little parcel in her hand. "I'm here to see Miss Lynn," that beautiful girl smiled brightly.
"Sure. Do you have an appointment?" Asked Audrey after she got over the first shock of seeing face this beautiful in front of her.
"Actually no. My name is Candace, I'm her party organizer. I really need to talk to her about some cake problem."
"Oh, of course. You can wait in the meeting room,"
"Actually, can I just wait here instead? It won't be long."
Audrey nodded and then punched Miss Lynn extension number on the phone.
"Hmm, is Adam in?" Asked Candace again.
The truth is Adam and Candace haven't seen each other since their last date view days ago. They texted and call each other briefly but that's just about it.
"Yes, he's in. Do you want him as well?"
"Oh no, I'm sure Lynn told him I'm here already."
Audrey smiled and nodded and left the girl to herself until Miss Lynn came along with Adam a view seconds later.
"Candace," exclaimed miss Lynn and then embraced the girl.
"Hi Lynn. Hi, babe," Candace said to Adam and gave him a peck on the lips.
Audrey looked at Candace and Adam kissed and it became clear to her that this is the famous Candace everyone has been talking about. Audrey knew that Adam has a girlfriend but this was the first time she ever seen Candace and truth be told she has a little crush on her.
"Here taste it," Candace gave the little parcel with beautiful cupcakes in it to Audrey. "It's my new recipe. If it's delicious I'm bringing it to Lynn's party."
"You always make delicious cakes, Candace. And this one is the winner!" Said Lynn with a mouthful of cake.
"Oh, this is delicious." said Audrey shortly.
No one noticed that the whole time Adam was looking at Audrey instead of Candace. He noticed the way Audrey eat the frosting first and then the cake. The way Audrey licked the tip of her nose where the frosting smeared and made it worst and then eventually got a napkin to clean her nose. He noticed the sincere way Audrey enjoying Candace's cake. It made him smile.
"Oh, Audrey, you should come to the party. It's actually my daughter's birthday. It's this Saturday." said Lynn. "Everyone is coming."
"That sounds fun! But I can't come, I got a hot date Saturday." said Audrey apologetically.
"Hot date, huh?" Lynn smirked as she walked passed Audrey back to her desk.
The truth is there was no hot date on Saturday. Audrey didn't want to go to a kid's birthday party. She has a mix feeling that she didn't like when it comes to kids so being around kids is a pass for her.
"I'm sorry we haven't talk much, babe. I've been busy with this party and I got another one actually this Sunday so it's really hectic. But we'll get together after Sunday, okay?" said Candace to Adam.
"It's no big deal." said Adam nonchalantly.
"I'll see you on Saturday at Lynn's party. You're coming, right?"
"Of course,"
Then Candace gave Adam a little peck on the cheek and left. The whole proceeding seeing from a stranger point of view might seemed a bit cold for a lovers meeting but it was their way of conversation ever since they've been together. They didn't look sweet on each other although they did look like they belong with each other; a beautiful girl and a handsome man.
"So, you got a hot date on Saturday, huh?" asked Adam trying so hard to kept his jokingly tone. But inside he felt something like a little jealousy. It was a bit too soon for jealousy really, he haven't even confessed his feeling even to himself. Still the feeling of jealousy started to creep in.
Audrey didn't reply his questions with plain answer, instead she only smiled mysteriously at him.
"Quite a catch there, dude! Quite a catch," said Audrey in complement for Candace.
In returned Adam smiled to Audrey and went back inside.
"I should've taken two cupcakes," mumbled Audrey and Adam smiled as he heard that.
Saturday rolled in, while Adam looked around in hope that Audrey would change her mind, Audrey on the other hand was staying home with Mary, drinking and binge watching a period drama.
Times went by and Adam's feeling for Audrey got stronger as he got more curious about her. I just don't understand how a guy who only spent view minutes of stolen conversation with a girl could find himself in love with her but that was the fact of Adam's feeling. Instead of his perfect girlfriend, he still has hot for Audrey, a girl he barely knew.
Audrey on the other side is clueless about how Adam's feel. I mean how could she when Adam treated her like he treated his other friends, no special treatment. And Adam also has a girlfriend already, a perfect one at that too, so why Audrey would ever think or suspect his feeling for her. Sure, he did sometimes brought her coffee or food out of the blue but he always said it were leftovers or he got two for one, etc that Audrey thought him a generous and that's it. But of course reader, we all know all those reasons were bullshit because Adam bought all those foods especially for her as he stood in line and thought about her, he would wait in line to get a coffee and suddenly thought about her and he would buy her one or he would go to lunch and Audrey would creep into his mind so he bought her the same food as he ordered. Whatever he did, Audrey would always be in his mind. Audrey though is blind about all this.
"You're going to the club after work with us," said Adam one Friday afternoon. Audrey has been working for 3 months now.
"What club? Why?"
"Ethan scored a hiring so we're going to celebrate. You're coming,"
"I am?"
"Everyone's coming so it includes you," then Adam left after he said it so Audrey didn't have time to decline.
It was Friday night TGIF and the club was full but apparently miss Lynn who was a very organized person has booked them a table so they didn't have to scattered to look for an empty table.
When Adam said everyone's coming he really did mean everyone as his girlfriend came too but to be fair Candace was invited by Giles Thornton, the Managing director of the company whom also a family friend of Candace. And anyway, Candace is a friend to everyone in the office and a regular party to every office outing like she was an employee. So, yeah, she came too.
Everyone was having fun, the drinks were plenty, the musics were upbeat and Audrey has danced with pretty much every guy but Ethan and Adam.
Adam was sitting on the bar with half the party while Audrey and the other half were sitting on the table across the bar. Once or twice Audrey has noticed that Adam kept looking at their table. She has noticed how he stole a view looks here and there in their table.
"Man, that guy really can't keep his eyes off his girlfriend," thought Audrey.
If only she knew that he was actually looking at her, stole a glance at her, intently watching her and Ethan talking and laughing together and how Adam really felt looking at her and Ethan which by the way a single guy and not so bad looking himself too.
Adam saw that Ethan has asked Audrey to dance with him, he watched them dance together until he couldn't take it and eventually went to the dance floor and cut Ethan.
"Can i cut in?" Asked Adam already in between Audrey and Ethan, holding her hand.
"Geez, Adam!" Exclaimed Ethan but then he left.
"That was rude, dude," said Audrey not quite a reproached but a joke.
"How come you don't dance with me?"
"You didn't ask. You know a girl has to be asked to dance, right?"
"Old school," said Adam looking intently on Audrey. "Finally, I know something about you,"
"Is it so important to you to know things about me?"
Adam didn't answer, he couldn't form a single word as he got closer, embraced Audrey in his arms, got so close his lips almost touched hers but Audrey pulled out just seconds before they would kiss. It took Audrey an extra strength to do that too as we all know she is a slave to the goddess of lust and a kiss is something she couldn't resist but at that moment her eyes saw Candace going to the ladies room, laughing with miss Lynn, not knowing the act of disloyalty her boyfriend was about to do. At that point something inside Audrey sank.
To avoid anymore trouble Audrey decided to leave early while Adam drowning his sorrow with more scotch and ice.
He was so close to touch that lips, he was so close to tastes her.
