Audrey and Adam has been having an affair for a month now. All those times Audrey kept strict rules for herself: no sleep over - once the deed is done she is gone - no going out on a date and of course no text. She was enjoying her experience with Adam but she still couldn't shake her guilt towards Candace.
Adam was the most miserable of the two. He couldn't lie to himself that he enjoyed the affair and he has no regret whatsoever about it. However it was Candace who weighed him down. He felt so bad about lying to her, preferring not to spent his free times with her, somewhat ignoring her. He was planning on breaking things off with Candace. He has to when the little feeling he had left for Candace now completely gone. All his heart belong to Audrey.
"Hi, I'm here to see Lynn,"
Audrey looked up and saw Candace with her bright beautiful face standing erect in front of the receptionist desk.
"You want to wait here?"
"Yes, it won't be long I suppose,"
Audrey called Lynn on her extension and not long after Lynn showed up and greeted Candace warmly.
They were talking about some party stuff that Audrey didn't pay attention to until almost at the end of the meeting Audrey heard Adam being mentioned.
"Is Adam alright, Lynn?" asked Candace.
"Yes, I think so. Why do you ask? You two are fighting?"
"Oh no," answered Candace hurriedly. "We haven't been intimate this past month. I mean we both busy but sometimes I feel like he forgets about me," Audrey picked up a sad tone in Candace's voice.
"I'm so sorry, my dear. Do you want me to talk to him?" offered Lynn even though she knew exactly that Adam wouldn't want to talk to her about his relationship. He never liked to.
"No, Lynn, it's alright. I just don't understand why he's been kinda ignoring me,"
There were more that Candace told to Lynn but Audrey didn't have the guts to stay and listen when her stomach churn with guilt. She got out of there, pretended that she needed to go to the ladies room.
Audrey needed to take a breath. She didn't know why she cared about Candace, why would she care about her pain when they both only ever talked about getting Lynn and sometimes Candace offered her some cakes and that's about all their exchanges.
When Audrey returned, Candace was still sitting but Lynn had went back inside. Audrey saw Candace wiped her tears away and she felt her heart sank. Audrey felt like she should say something but decided against it and pretended not to see Candace, she just didn't want to be involved in her drama although she really was the author of that poor girl's drama.
"Is Adam here?" asked Candace after view minutes of composing herself.
"No, he went out for meeting," answered Audrey.
"Oh, maybe that's why he doesn't pick up. Well, thank you," said Candace with sad smile and then left.
Audrey watched as Candace left and felt really bad. She thought about ending it all with Adam but she couldn't. She didn't want to admit it but she believed she would be lost if they were to say goodbye to each other and he walked out of her life. Audrey wasn't comfortable at all with this kind of feeling.
As bad as she felt about Candace, the moment she laid eyes on Adam, all those bad feeling disappeared. They would spend every day interlocking in each other arms in Adam's bed, savoring each minute of their togetherness before Audrey decided that she was scared of falling in love and left Adam's apartment only to come back the next day. It was crazy!
Audrey opened her eyes slowly as she felt soft kisses all over her body. She felt like she was in extacy and out place at the same time. She remembered fell a sleep after making love to Adam and setting her timer for 15 minutes, it was enough time for her to rest her eyes because she was so sleepy.
She jolted awake as she realized that it was already 4 o'clock in the morning and Adam was somehow awake and kissing her.
"I have to go!" Cried Audrey.
"It's four in the morning, Audrey! Go back to bed, let's finish what I started," Adam took Audrey's hand and kissed it.
"What happened to my timer?" asked Audrey with panting breath as her desire raised with each kiss planted by Adam in her sensitive spots.
"I turned it off," whispered Adam.
"You did what? Why would you do that?"
"Would it kill you Audrey to spend the night here?"
"I can't," Audrey whispered in Adam's ear as she kisses his ears.
Audrey left early in the morning.
All the way home Audrey blamed herself for being so weak and gave in to Adam's request that she spent the night in his apartment. It was the first time she ever went against her principal and she was determined not to do it again.
The next evening they were together, Audrey's determination failed again as her work covering Anna yet again and then the making love tired her, all she wanted to do is to close her eyes and sleep, didn't matter if it was Adam's bed or hers. Adam smiled as he watched her fell asleep in his arms.
"What time is it?" Audrey jolted awake. All around her is dark, from outside thunder rumbling and rain poured heavily.
"What happen?" asked Adam sleepily.
"I have to go!" Audrey raised up from the bed and collected her articles of clothing. "Go back to bed, Adam."
"What are you afraid of, Audrey? Just stay and go home in the morning," Adam turned on the bedside lamp and noticed that it was 12 o'clock at night. "Jesus! It's midnight, you're not going anywhere,"
"I'll call Uber. You don't have to drive me home,"
"God, Audrey!" Adam sighed. "I'll take you home,"
"No, Adam!"
"Put on your jacket it's cold outside," Adam gave Audrey her jacket.
They were walking side by side in silence to the parking lot, Audrey walked a little in front of Adam when suddenly he put his arms around Audrey's shoulders and embraced her warmly. Audrey looked up and smiled to him. There was something moving about the whole thing.
Wednesday is always been a so so day, it is the middle of the week where nothing matter usually happens but for Audrey that Wednesday hit her like a thunder bolt.
It was almost 8 in the morning when Audrey greeted Ethan who was just came in when Adam followed closed by. The two men stood in front of Audrey's desk and have a little chat with her when suddenly Ethan patted Adam on the shoulder.
"Sorry about the break up, dude," said Ethan with sympathy.
"You break up with Candace?" asked Audrey looking directly into Adam's eyes.
"Yes," answered Adam shortly.
"That's too bad, she's a catch. You won't find another quite like her." replied Audrey nonchalantly.
Adam nodded and went inside the office with Ethan.
When Adam left Audrey's feelings flooded her. It was such a mix feeling. One side she felt guilty and bad for Candace but on the other - and this is the side that she hated to admit - she felt happy and relieved. But as soon as the happiness and relieved felt Audrey felt ashamed of herself and banished those feeling deep inside.
"I have to break up with her," Adam came back to see Audrey just view minutes later.
"I don't know about your relationship with Candace, Adam. It's your business." Audrey avoided eye contact with Adam. It was the sign of her uncomfortableness.
Adam turned around and went back inside but stopped in his track when Audrey said,
"But I hope it wasn't because of what we're doing,"
"It wasn't," replied Adam.
Audrey could tell that he lied to her. It was indeed because of the affair that Adam break up with Candace. It weighed on Audrey's heart when we all know from Brandon's experience once the man admit that he fell for Audrey and left his long term girlfriend for her that was when she usually ran away. This time though, it was hard to pick up herself and ran away because something has tied Audrey to Adam even though she thought she'd rather die than to admit that she doesn't want to be without Adam.
The rest of the day Audrey tried hard to avoided Adam when it was time to go home she left in a rush.
"It's only Wednesday, Audrey!" Exclaimed Mary when she got back home an hour later and found Audrey and a bottle of vodka half way done. "Something bad happened?"
"Something terrible,"
"Pour me a glass and then tell me what happened,"
Audrey told Mary about what happened with Adam and the break up.
"He fell in love with you, Audrey. Just like Brandon."
"I don't want love, Mary. I just want sex and that's it! I don't want complication,"
"Why do you hate it when someone fall in love with you? What are you afraid of? Did something happened to you?" Mary sighed, "He could be the one, Audrey,"
"I don't want the one, Mary. I just want to have fun."
"Why are you like this? What happened to you, Audrey?"
"I never told any of this to anybody but I've been friends with you for a long time that I think maybe I could tell you,"
