Well, we heard the story of Audrey's past from her own mouth so now we understand why she did all the things that she had done. She once love a man but he turned out to be horrible and Audrey has sacrificed a lot to take back her freedom, she even have to - selfishly - lost a child for it. At least now we understand Audrey's reluctance in commitment.
So, what she did after Adam broke up with Candace is of no surprise; she resigned from her job just to ran away from him. Audrey didn't want to be separated from Adam in truth but she also haunted by her bad experience that the fear conquered her. It was the hardest decision from Audrey.
"Today is your last day?" asked Adam right away as soon as Audrey opened her door.
Audrey has been avoiding Adam today because she didn't want to have to tell him about her resignation or the fact that she didn't want to see him again. At exactly 5 after work Audrey went straight home without ever talking to Adam.
"Yes," replied Audrey.
"Why?"
"I got better offer somewhere else,"
"No, you're not. You're scared because I just broke up with Candace. You scared of us being together, aren't you?"
"Do you want to be together with me? Right after Candace?"
"Call me crazy but I do!"
"You're crazy! I'm sorry I don't do relationship."
"I know you feel something for me. I know it's there, Audrey. You feel something, you're just too scared!"
Audrey fell silent. The confession of love was on the tip of her tongue but she was too scared to utter it because once she said it, she knew her life wouldn't be the same.
"I know the love is there, Audrey. The trust though isn't," there was some regret in Adam's voice. "The worst part is, you never give me a chance to earn your trust."
Audrey stayed silent and kept back tears. She couldn't speak because her voice was choked with tears. There was uncomfortable silence between them for view moments and then without saying anything Adam left.
Audrey closed the door and fell on the floor, crying hot tears of regrets and deep sadness. She loves him, yes, she does! But she was too scared to be in a relationship again. She was too hurt before.
View days has gone by in a haze. Audrey was looking for a new job but she was too lazy to go to any interview. All she did was drinking and crying at night thinking about Adam.
"Good Lord, Audrey! If you can't stop thinking about him, wouldn't it be better to go see him? Take a chance! You'll be crying your eyes out otherwise." cried Mary irritatingly. It was in the middle of the night and she couldn't bare to hear Audrey's sobbing in her room. "He's not Edward, you must know that. You fucked him for half a year! You must know him better."
"What if he is?"
"Do you think he is? Because if he is like Edward I don't think you want anything to do with him in the first place." Mary pulled Audrey up and out of her bed. "Go to him, Audrey. You know you want to."
Without even a second thought Audrey grabbed her jacket and left. The journey to Adam's apartment was a little bit hazy for Audrey as she was so nervous but excited at the same time. Her heart beat liked a crazy drum all the way there.
Adam jumped out of his bed when he heard knocking. It was reflect because he rarely has a visitor in the middle of the night. He opened the door and surprised to see Audrey.
All was suddenly empty on Audrey's head when she saw Adam opened the door. She didn't know what to say when she decided to come to Adam in the first place but now seeing him, it drained all reasons from Audrey's mind.
"I.." began Audrey in a rushed but stopped after she realized she didn't know what to say.
"Yes?" Adam was trying so hard to restraint himself from rushing to Audrey's lips and kiss it with all the passion that he had suppressed these past view days. He wanted her but he wanted more to hear what she has to say.
"I..I don't know.." Audrey sighed. She started to feel frustrated. "I don't know what I want, Adam. I want you but I'm too scared to be in a relationship with you. I've had it bad before and I lost part of me trying to get out of it. I'm too scared to try again. I don't know."
Audrey looked intently at Adam, "do you want to have me like this? With all this fear and confusion and to just be with me without any label?"
"I want to kiss you so bad! Come here," Adam pulled Audrey closed to him and kissed her as he closed the door behind them.
