Brandon was heartbroken and frustrated. He has been calling and texting Audrey ever since she left him, naked and dumbfounded at his apartment right after he confessed his love for her. He even got more agitated as he learned about Audrey hasty resignation. But now, Brandon felt lost when he has been coming to Audrey's apartment for three days, knocking on her door but she never opened it. Heartbreak messed him up and it showed on how he looked on the outside, the way he carries himself now like a fallen leaf. The old charm has gone and the way he turned out for the worst because of Audrey enraged Betsy.
Brandon stood in front of Audrey's apartment door. It's the fourth time he came to begged, no, it wasn't to beg exactly, he didn't even know why he was so persistent in the first place. But something inside him wouldn't let things be so he kept on knocking so pathetically.
"Brandon,"Mary finally opened the door. "I just can't take it anymore. Audrey said to let you be but I can't stand to see you like this."
"Can I see her?" pleaded Brandon.
"No, Brandon. I'm sorry," Mary stepped outside and closing the door behind her. "Listen, Brandon, I need to say this to you even if it end up making you fire me. You need to stop! Take sometime to think things over. Think about how you really feel about Audrey. What is there left to be asked from her when she clearly said she doesn't love you. What keeps you coming back for more? Is it because you are curious? You think she's the only woman who ever played you so now you need to conquer her? Is it really love on your part or is it just for conquest? You need to figure it out, Brandon because there is someone waiting for you and she's just a train ride away. She's someone who really care about you and that she is not Audrey."
Brandon looked at Mary for a moment, his expression was hard to determined. Was it anger? Was it humiliation? Was it enlightenment? Mary couldn't tell. But after view seconds of looking at Mary, Brandon left without saying anything.
And for a week Brandon didn't show up at work. Betsy went crazy with anger, blaming Audrey and cursing her with every cursed words ever known to man. Good thing though that at this time Audrey has left the accursed office and moved on to another job in another company.
Well, since Brandon got view chapters in this story which means that some of you reader might be invested in his happiness. So, I'm well pleased to inform you that after some soul searching Brandon finally realized that he never loved Audrey. She was as she said to him, another adventure, a passing fancy. Brandon finally reunited with Jules, his loyal and loving fiancee. They got married and have kids and live happily ever after. I don't know though whether his little adventure with Audrey was disclosed to his now wife or not. I guess we'll never know.
Life for Audrey though continued with new job at a new company. It was a small company, a consultancy firm dealing mostly with hiring people for other company, in other words, head hunter. They were only 10 people but it was a fast growing company. But what does Audrey care about that. The company offered her competitive salary (meaning a little, very little improvement from the last one). She was to become a receptionist. A very easy job for her and one that she was sure she would love.
"You're the new receptionist," said a man as he got out of the elevator and saw the top of Audrey's head - brown hair instead of red of the old receptionist. "I'm Ethan,"
Audrey shook hand with Ethan.
"Audrey," she said with the sweetest smile.
"Hey, dude, this is our new receptionist," said Ethan to another man who was just coming out of the elevator. "Nice to meet you, Audrey. This is Adam."
"Hi," said Audrey shortly to the tall man that was just coming out of the elevator.
"Nice to meet you." said Adam and then went inside to catch up with Ethan.
Audrey settled down nicely at the new office. She liked it there very much. After Betsy, anything would feel like much of an improvement but this office really was a safe haven. The people there is small in number therefore they are intimate with each other and they're all friendly and generally nice. The job is easy and it pays well. Life couldn't be more perfect for Audrey.
But once again, the goddess of lust and cupid were on their way to bring havoc into Audrey's life. The havoc was in the form of one Mr. Adam Preston.
It started with the first look at Audrey and Adam found her to be enticing. She has that beautiful face and it often be the one that attracted people firstly.
To talked to Audrey, Adam would've made up reason to hang out at the receptionist desk. The first reason that he could come up with was that he was waiting for a courier guy with an important letter. He knew there would be a letter for him delivered by a courier but it wasn't as important as he made it out to be.
"I could call you when the courier guy comes." said Audrey after a view minutes of uncomfortable silence with Adam walked back and forth in front of her looking like he was waiting but really he was figuring out what to say to her.
"No need. It is a very important letter." Adam stood with his elbow rested on Audrey's top desk. "So, where did you work before?"
Audrey scoffed, "what is it? A second interview? Well, if you must know I was in Picadily before."
"Why did you leave?"
Audrey smile, "No, I won't tell you."
"Why not? Was there a scandal?"
"Or maybe I just want you to be curious," Audrey smirked.
Nothing else was said because finally the courier guy came.
From that moment on Adam would came to the front desk and stole a little conversation with Audrey. It started with conversation although it rarely touched on the private subject especially since Audrey always refused to answer any questions related to her private life but it was always a fun and enjoyable conversation nevertheless. I won't bore you with the example of their conversation. Just think of it like how you would talk with your best friend who you have a crush on. Make sense?
Anyway, it started with a conversation and then Adam began to pay attention to Audrey in secret. He would one day heard Audrey talked about a delicious cake she ate on the weekend and heard her exclaimed about how the cake could be her favorite, the next day he would ordered 3 pieces of that cake and gave one to his friend - Miss Lynn - one for him and one he sent to Audrey through the office boy, James with a note that he miscalculated the pieces and have one cake left that perhaps Audrey could eat it. He always did this with anything that he would like to give to Audrey (it was mostly food) that Audrey thought he is a foodie but never did she suspect any other feeling from Adam. He was so secretive when it comes to her sweet treatment to Audrey that she thought him a good friend but an asshole one, clearly not a good boyfriend material. Not that he's available anyway.
