emma's pov
thoughts swirling around my head nonstop. non of which seem to be about going to sleep. it i'll over and see ethan peacefully asleep next to me. i look at the clock 2:36. i sigh not wanting to wake ethan up but wanting him. at night is when all of my anxiety builds up in my mind. i start to stress about every little thing and before i know it i'm in tears. i try to keep my little cries quiet so i don't wake up ethan but it's too late. i turns around to face me but i turn away from him not wanting him to see that i'm crying. obviously he knows because this happens many nights.
"awh em it's ok, it's all going to be ok.l he rubs my back gently with his fingertips but this only makes me cry even harder.
"come here." he sits up and places me on his lap.
"breath babygirl just breath." after a few deep breathes my crying stops. he always knows how to deal with my spontaneous panic attacks.
"here come on let's go on a drive." he picks me up and grabs one of my sweatshirts knowing i will be could in just a t shirt and my sweatpants. he carries me out to the car as i lay my head on his shoulder. he paces me as carefully as he can onto the passenger seat. we drive around aimlessly going wherever the car takes us. soft music plays in the background and comfortable silence falls around us. i stare out the window as ethan lightly taps out the beat of the song on my thigh.
"i love you e." is say breaking the silence.
"i love you more." he take his hand off of my thigh and uses it to caress my cheek giving me a tingly feeling on the inside. we slowly drive around the empty roads for a little bit while i play with his hand, lifting up and then putting back down on my leg one finger at a time, then starting all over when i got through all of them. ethan pulls up into a random parking lot overlooking a view of la. he walks around to my side of the car and picks me up by the armpits while i wrap my legs around his waist. i cuddle into his shoulder as he places me up on top of his car. he quickly joins me in his car and i place my head in his lap and look up at him. i teach up and trace my fingers on his jawline. he grabs my hand and kisses it making me blush.
"i love you peanut." he says into my hand. he runs his hand over my cheek.
"i love you more." i say tiredly.
ethan's pov
emma sits up and slides next to me. she holds both of my hands and leans in. i gently press my lips against hers. everything was absolutely perfect until a large drop of rain lands in my head. following more. before we knew it it was pouring down rain. i help emma down off the car and hold her hand. i push the passenger seat down and slide in quickly. i pull emma on top of me so she is stung in her stomach on my chest. we look up through the skylight at the bright stars scattered across the sky. the soft pitter patter of the rain makes me eyelids heavey. emma presses a soft kiss on my chin. i smile down at her and kiss her on the head.
"thanks for helping me fall asleep." emma says laying on her side tracing little shapes on my stomach.
"of course, anything for you peanut, i love you."
"i love you too." she says quietly. eventually her long nails stopped drawing shapes on my stomach and her breath became steady. i lift her off of my chest as carefully as i could trying not to wake up my sleeping princess. i pace he ron the seat and buckle her seat belt. i slide into the drivers seat and hold onto her hand as i slowly drive home.
