Maddie's P.O.V

"I thought I smelled swamp." I hear Klaus say from outside the room. I furrow my eyebrows and walk out of the bathroom to see Jack.

"What did you do with Hayley?" Jack asks him.

"Tell me what you know." Elijah says to Klaus walking next to my brother.

"Has Jackson misplaced his bride?" Klaus asks walking in the room from his place on he balcony. "Come to think about it, I did read that global warming had disrupted migration patterns. Try Georgia."

"I just left the bodies of people I care about to rot in the woods because you left them defenceless against poachers, sent by kingmaker land development. That ring a bell?" Jackson says angrily as I look at Klaus who lost his smile.

"What the hell is kingmaker land development? What is he talking about, Klaus?" I ask confused.

"Yeah. The CEO is Lucien Castle." My face drops. What? "Elijah tells me that you two go way back."

"So I will ask you once again. What do you know?" Elijah asks walking up to Klaus.

"As it happens, I just came back from a romp with our good friend Lucien. You can find him in the penthouse of the Gaudy new construction in canal." Klaus says to Elijah. "And while you two are catching up, be sure to ask him about the prophetic vision he showed me of our family's spectacular downfall. You could use a good laugh."

Elijah looks to Jackson, "stay here. Niklaus and I will deal with this." Jackson goes to talk but Klaus starts talking first.

"Actually, as long as Hayley's prowling about on two legs and unaccounted for, I am staying with my daughter. And should I discover that this is yet another cockeyed scheme for Hayley and you to abscond with her, the paltry remains of your beloved wolf pack will be sniffing at your entrails Come morning." He says as I sigh.

"Klaus!" I say loudly making the three guys shocked.

Elijah speeds in front of Klaus, "Does this not frighten you, brother? That one day, your children will know exactly the kind of man that their father is? If anything happens to Hayley or Jackson, I promise you, no one will take your children away, they will, without question, leave you of their own accord." He says and walks away from him.

I look at Klaus sadly and walk up to Jackson and hug him tightly. "I'm so glad you're okay." I whisper in his shoulder as he wraps his arm as around me. Soon after, Jack and Elijah left to go and talk to Lucien.

"Freya, I'm aware that 21st century technology remains a mystery to you, but when you see my name pop up on your phone, you answer it. Come home. Immediately." Klaus says as I laugh. I see Cami and smile.

"Cami. Hey." I walk over and hug her. I told her about Lucien and she told me she would see what she could do.

"Mere hours after you lecture me about boundaries, and here you are, at my house in the middle of the night." Klaus says amused.

"I came through the front door. You appeared through the window like a creeper." Cami says walking closer to us. "Besides, Maddie asked me to come." Klaus looks at me as I shrug.

"Life and death matter." I inform him and look to Cami. "So?"

"Oh. How novel." Klaus says as I roll my eyes.

"Call it a hunch, but I think your friend Lucien is torturing and killing humans in the quarter. There have been two victims so far. But I've constructed a psychological profile of the killer, and I don't think it's going to end there." Cami explains. I knew it. From the minute I saw him, I knew it.
