I woke up, sweating under the covers I had piled on last night, squinting at the bright sun that was already peeking through my white curtains.
Ahh summer, I thought to myself, kicking the heavy blankets off of me. I sat up and stretched in my bed, swinging my legs over the side. Suddenly, my stomach dropped out of, excitement? Nerves? Fear? Who knows, but all I could say for sure was that today was Jordan's surprise. I had no idea what he was cooking up but I was anxious to find out...
*****
I'd prolonged getting ready for as long as possible- mostly because I had no idea how to prepare for the surprise (which of course is kinda the point of a surprise but still), what to wear??
I rifled through my closet, now feeling a little bit pressed for time, as I was supposed to meet Jordan in two hours and still had to shower, dry my hair, do my makeup, get dressed, and get out the door. To top it all off, a massive pimple was forming on my cheek because my period would start next week.
Thanks a lot hormones.
I sighed, finally settling on a beige and white striped linen sundress. I'd wear it with my gold sandals and call it a day. I gave myself a once over in the mirror, deciding to forgo the shower- my hair looked good enough. So instead, I spent extra time perfecting a makeup look- subtle but still slightly more than usual.
It was now 11:00, and I had to leave in ten minutes. I made a last minute decision to loosely braid my hair, and to grab a tote bag with a bathing suit and some shorts and flip flops just in case we were taking a surprise beach trip or going in Jordan's pool.
I went downstairs, and saying goodbye to my parents, walked out the front door. As I was just about to unlock my car, a black convertible rolled up in front of my house.
Before I had time to process, a head popped out of the open top.
"Surprise! Hop in let's go!" Jordan said from the drivers seat, flashing a bright smile.
I couldn't help but grin at the expression on his face, and hurried over to the passenger side.
"Where to?" I asked.
But Jordan, of course, would not let out any details.
"This is a surprise, Kylie, I can't tell you." He said giggling as he pulled away from my house. "In fact..." he continued, beginning to root around in the center console, "This is for you."
He handed me a black strip of fabric, "go on, tie it around your head," he said, clearly very pleased with himself.
"Really? A blindfold?" I asked, but tied it around my head anyways. I guess I should let the boy have his fun.
Jordan put on my favorite playlist, and I was glad to have put my hair in a braid as the wind rushed around us.

After a while, I began to feel a bit nauseous. Being blindfolded while driving was a little disorienting. But, just as I was about to ask how much longer it would be, I felt the car stop, and could hear Jordan putting it in park.
I went to untie the blindfold, but, "not yet!" Jordan said, exiting the car. I heard his door close, and shortly after, mine was opened.
"Okay, now," he said, helping me to take off the blindfold.
I squinted at my surroundings, unable to see for a moment because of the brightness of the sun.
