The kids kept on walking in silence for about 3 or 4 hours before they came across a park that was covered with tents and had people milling around tending to small patches of veggie gardens. They heard a small shout from the front of the group and than as one the civilized group turned towards the new-comers most of them looking suspicious but some looking friendly.
"Who are you and where are you from...?" said the same voice they had heard before. A rather nerdy looking boy budged to the front of the crowd and started to walk towards the kids. " I SAID, who are you and where are you from...?" he said in i slightly raised tone. we don't really have a place were coming from. Were wandering." Damian said for the group.
"Well what'd you want from us." The boy asked."we want somewhere safe to stay." James replied quietly. "you want to stay here i assume?" the boy asked. "if you'll let us." James said. "let me talk to my leader, and see what she thinks." "she?" asked Damian, surprised. "Yea you got a problem with that?" "no not at all..." Damian said, still surprised.
The boy took them to a tent that was slightly bigger than the others and asked them to wait on some park benches that they seemed to have moved inside the tent. The boy went through a curtain to another room and came back a few moments later with a girl. " So you guys looking for a safe place huh?" She asked, slightly curious." Yea if you'll have us." James said.
"well... we are a little short of people since the accident last week. I guess we could have some more people in the gardens and more guards." she said to the nerdy boy. "hey were not just gonna be some guards and gardeners." Brooke spoke for the first time in the past 6 or 7 hours."yea we want more privilege than just to have food and a bed. We want respect and authority." James said trying to take over the conversation.
They went back in to the other room and spoke for a minute. Than the two came back out and the girl said, " I'm Jessica and this is Devon." "and you have a deal." said Devon
