Everyone gathered what they could to prepare a makeshift pillow to support Timmer while she slept. Kenner sat nearby while drinking water from her scratched water bottle. She remembers when she got it, they were handed out to all those who signed up for seal training. She remembered when they gave out two whole boxes of water bottles with the word "NAVY" on the side, along with PT gear, and dog tags. Speaking of dog tags she had to send someone to out to get Aguirre's Tags.
"Cano, get Aguirre's tags".
Cano got up
"aye aye ma'am"
he then ran out, Kenner could hear his footsteps get further and further away, that's all she can focus on. She was so focused she didn't notice that Reyes asked her a question.
"Excuse me what?"
Reyes smirked and repeated her question " how are you holding up?".
Kenner looked at Reyes then looked down and back up at Reyes again. She opened her mouth then closed it again, rethinking what she should say. Then she finally responded after what felt like an awkward amount of time,
" I'm okay at the moment. Though things could be worse. We could be at war."
both Reyes and Kenner both chuckled not because it was funny but because it was true so true it was scary. Both Kenner and Reyes looked away, Kenner looked at the water bottle. She can still hear the waves of the ocean and the moans of her friends as they swam to shore, she can feel the sweet go down her back, she can still taste the salt from the ocean. Reyes on the other hand focused all her attention to her boots, she noticed how scuffed they were and how she shined them yesterday.
Only for them to get ruined and covered in dust and blood, she didn't mind the dust but the blood bothered her. All her training had taught her how to manage her stress and anxiety. But nothing had trained her to see death in a normal way, it was ironic in a way. She has been trained to be North America's top killing machine but she has never faced death like she did today. All she can hear is the cries for help from all those who suffered today.
If the devil had a home, this island would be it.
Ruelas and Sanderson just came back from checking up on people. They both had the same expression, disgust, mixed with fear. They haven't witnessed anything like his before. Ruelas broke the silence with a simple "hello". It scared everyone.
" We have the death count, and most of the people need supplies. We don't have enough medicine to hand out to the injured, and everyone wants to leave the island."
Kenner pointed to the radio, "The radio is sending but not receiving, so we can't get help until we find out what's wrong and how we can fix it."
Sanderson asked if he can take a look at it. Kenner replied with "go for it" Sanderson went to work.
Cano came back running he was out of breath. He could barely Finish his sentence
" G-guys. A-a-Aguirre's body. I-s-s gone!"
He took deep breaths and tried to stay still. Kenner got up and asked what happened. Reyes got up and tried to calm Cano down. Kenner thought it was some sick joke but she knew it wasn't a joke because she knows the look Cano gives when he is scared.
It made her scared too.
