Over the past few weeks I've been packing stuff at my moms place. Always just a little bit so she doesn't notice. Hell she doesn't even see that my room is almost completely empty. "Rob? Could you help me with the box with my books? It's quite heavy." I say. " You think you'll still be backing at campus?" He asks hopefully. Backing has been my favorite thing to do since I started working at Henries. "I hope so. In the brochure I read that they've got a small kitchen to cook. His smile widens from ear to ear. "Come here." He says as he pulls me in a hug. "Promise me that I can come visit you every weekend." He whispers in my ear, which gives me shivers through my whole body. "You can visit me whenever you want. You know that." I say looking him straight in his bright blue eyes. "Except when I'm in class." I tease him. "I can't wait to walk down the beach. Our feet in the water. The wind blowing through our hair." I mumble. Suddenly I hear keys ringing. Shit. "Can you put the last box in the car? I'll try to distract her." He nods and let's me leave the room. Luckily the back window of Robs car is blinded so she can't see the boxes already in there. "Haven't seen you in a while. You aren't moving in with Robert are you?" Panic flushes over me. "Because I have been very busy finding a place for the two of us." She says as the holds up a brochure of a house. "It's only half an hour away and there is also a college where you could go to." She smiles. She doesn't even know that college applications are already over. Maybe I should tell her. That I'm going to college. Not which one. "Yeah, about that mom. I.. I.. I've already applied for college and got accepted." I quickly says. "Oh.. well that's also great. Well if you need anything please let me know. I got a job, like you suggested." She says and I try to keep my mouth closed. She? A job? I must be dreaming. "I uhh got a scholarship so I won't need anything at the moment. But thanks." I smile. "Well I hope we can work things out between us. Not right now, but you know when you want to." Who is this and what has happened to my mother? "Yeah I would like that, mom. But I gotta go.. Rob is waiting." I say as I quickly hug her.
"She has a job, she wants to work things out with me." I say in disbelief as I get in the car. "Has she been drinking?" He jokingly asks. "This is not funny Rob. She sounded serious. Like she really meant every word she said. She didn't even mention you. She was even kinda glad that I got accepted to college." "Sorry.." he mumbles. " I know she hasn't been nice to you from day one, but she still is mother. And I would never say it out load, but I love her." He nods as he kisses my hand. "It's okay you don't need to explain yourself. As long as you are happy. Therefore I am happy. But, most important questions of the world. Do you want to get some ice cream?" He asks. I squeak "Yes please!" We drove to the best ice cream bar in town and had our favorite share plate.
Just two more days until college. I decided to go there a week early so I could get used to everything before classes would really start. I wonder who my roommate would be. I hope she'll be nice. If not I could still change dorms.
