Artemis's POV

It is all downhill from there. The dragon flies into our makeshift bridge, making it impossible to ga back before we at least defeat it. When we run straight into The Ferocity's lair, it knocks Solomon off of her feet, and her head cracks against the cave wall. I see blood, at the back of her head and in a painfully slick, thick red line down the cave wall as she slumps into a still, silent crumpled pile of death and decay, by any good guess. Mellach shouts-screams- and rushes to her side. He whispers things that I won't even take a guess at. I hear several muffled curses mingled in the chaos from Howl.

The great beast rears up and knocks me down onto my knees. I heave and pant, while I wait for a final blow. But I don't. When I look up, Howl is levitating The Ferocity above me. A deep look of concentration has overcome his face. I don't wait for him to tell me before I bolt from my position in the dirt floor of the cave.

The dragon falls to the ground, as does Howl, unconsious.

I take a dagger from the folds of Solomon's dark cloak, and nod at Mellach, trying to show symapathy. Then I charge The Ferocity, at full speed. I plunge the short blade hilt deep into the dragon's back. I cling on for dear life, as the gargantuin beast rises up onto it's hind legs, before shoving it's two front, scaly legs down to the ground. The entire cavern system echoes with the sound, and I am knocked from it's back.

It brings one great leg down on top of me- or begins to anyways, until Howl shoved me out of teh way and was pounded instead.

"How far will you go? Would you sacrifice your own powers? Your eyesight?"  I remember SOlomon talking to me. I would be lucky to even survive- but I can do it. I can save Howl, with what little power I have and my eyesight. I will be blind and powerless for life- but I would rather have a little, short life with him than no life at all with the one I love . . .

Without a second thought, I put everything in me into one last spell/rune combintion to save Howl.

Mellach's POV

I respect the girl's decision, but I have to reveal my powers to Howl, too, in order to saver her eyesight. My life is forfeitted in the action of saving Artemis's eyesight, but she will see and Howl will live. I have nothing left of this world and they can save Markl without me. I fix everything I can in the world, and then in my dying breath, with on final, magical effort, I kill the Ferocity by deflecting it's own firey breath.
