Chapter 17

"Sierra, stop! I'm right here." Ramin placed his hands on her shoulders, trying to her to stop, but she wouldn't.

Then something happened that he didn't expect.

Her eyes shot opened.

Sierras eyes scanned the room for a spilt second before landing on Ramin. The second she sees him, tears spill out of her eyes.

Ramin immediately jumps on the bed and pulls her into his arms. "Hey, shh, everything is fine. You're safe with me." He whispered, stroking her hair. She tried to say something, but they both soon learned that she had no voice. "Don't speak, Sierra." Ramin sighed, holding her really tight.

The nurse ran in, a little too late for Ramin's liking, and put something in her IV that instantly calmed Sierra down. In fact, she calmed down so much that she fell asleep in Ramin's arms.

"What did you do to her?!" Ramin gasped as he gently laid her down on the pillow.

"It's just a little medicine to calm her down. It shuts down her brain so she can't dream, but she should be awake in another minute. She's perfectly fine, Ramin. Don't worry. If you need anything, press the nurses button five times quickly and I'll be here before you can blink an eye." Ramin nodded, thanking her.

As the nurse predicted, Sierra was awake within the next five minutes. Her eyes opened slowly, then her face scrunched in pain. She looked completely delusional.

"Hey," Ramin whispered, sitting on the edge of the bed, "just stay calm. Everything is fine. I'm right here, okay?" Sierra nodded slowly, letting her head lull to the side.

Her weak hand reached for his and she tugged at it, but it wasn't strong at all. Ramin seemed to get the memo because he kicked off his shoes and got next to her in bed.

Sierra immediately curled up next to him and closed her eyes once more. Ramin wanted nothing more then to jump around and celebrate her waking up, but he needed to be there for her. He needed to hold her and tell her she was safe.

"Ramin," she croaked, "tell me what I missed, please," she begged, holding him tighter.

"Everyone misses you like hell, especially me. The kids are heartbroken-"

"Is Ethan okay?" Sierra clearly had almost no voice left, but insisted she talk until she had none left.

"Ethan is a blooming almost two year old. He's a very musical young child. He likes to try and sing when I do." Ramin chuckled, and Sierra gave off a smile.

"Sleep with me Ramin, I can tell you need it-" her voice squeaked at the end and she knew that he no longer had a voice.

Ramin nodded and sunk back into the bed, enveloping her in his arms.
