"Can we see her?" They all jumped up as soon as the doctor came into the room. Laina knew it was bad news; she could tell by the pitiful look on his face and his lack of words. Her mother started screaming, legs giving out as she started to collapse to the floor. Her father wrapped his arms around her, both of them sinking to the floor.

Ryder, her brother, scowled at her. This was the first time he'd cried in front of her. Laina felt her heart break even more, tears streaming down her face. She shot out of her seat, running out of the waiting room. The police were still scattered throughout the hospital. Laina could not think straight with all of the loud voices in the emergency room. "Laina...Laina?" John Stilinski stood in front of her, standing still as she ran into his arms, breaking down in front of him. "I'm so sorry." He whispered, allowing her to cry as much as she wanted to.

"It's my fault. This is all my fault." She bawled, uncertain what would become of her family. They would never forgive her and Laina would never forgive herself.

"Hey, hey. Breathe, you have to breathe, Laina. Can you do that for me?" He pulled away, taking her face in his hands. She took two deep breaths. "Listen to me. This is not your fault. You're gonna be ok."

"You don't know that. My family hates me. My sister is dead. How? How am I going to be ok?"He wasn't the best at comforting, and he wondered if he was making her feel at all better. "I'll make sure of it. I promise, sweetheart."

"What'd I say about phones?' Derek scolded Laina as she abruptly stopped working out and checked her phone. She'd heard him say it many times since he started training her and she still hadn't learned her lesson.

"Yeah, I know. It'll take one second, and it's off." She promised after she quickly responded and shut her cell off.

"Are you alright? You're like a million a miles away today."

Laina hesitated. Yes, they were close, but only in the way that Derek could be close with someone. They knew about the darkness in each other, but he wasn't the one who would hold her while she complained about her romantic feelings. "It's nothing to worry about. I'll try to focus better."

"Is it about Allison?" He asked nonchalantly. "You seem to care about her a lot. There must be something really special about this Allison girl."

"I know what you're doing, Derek, but she isn't Kate. She doesn't even know what her family does. I promise I'm being careful." She assured him, eyes glued to her feet.

"It's not just about being safe, Laina. You, me and Scott. I don't want her to come between that, as dysfunctional as it is. We're stronger together, and from what I know, he feels something for her as well."

"So you think I should stop hanging out with her?"

Derek sighed, placing a hand on her shoulder. "All I'm saying is, don't rush into something too fast. You're young, Laina. I just don't want you to become someone different for a girl you dated in high school. I don't have much of an influence on Scott, but I've not had the best track record with girls. I want you to learn from my mistakes." He articulated with sincerity.

"Aw, Derek, you care about me." She cooed, reaching forward to hug him, chuckling when Derek stood still and didn't return the affection.

"Do you have to ruin every serious conversation we have?" He complained once she let go of him.
