And please, please, promise...swear, you won't hurt someone like you hurt me. Laina's eyes lingered on the last word, catching Erica's eyes when she raised her gaze. Erica looked tense, uncertain how Laina would react to such vulnerable work. "Wow, that was...tantalizing. You are so talented."
Erica averted her eyes when Laina slid the poem back. "Thanks. It's really nothing."
"No, don't say that. It's not nothing, Erica." She encouraged, not wanting to cross any lines when Erica was sharing something private. "I do have to ask. Is that something you really feel?"
She shrugged, tucking some hair behind her ear. "At times. The poem is about my seizures. It's tough to deal with, and kids can be cruel, Lain."
"Well, you already know if anyone gives you a hard time, then you give me a call and I'll start kicking asses left and right." She teased, poking Erica's side. "You should sit with me and my friends tomorrow. I think you'd like them and I know they'd like you very much."
Erica looked away from Laina. "I don't know. I'm not really good with people."
"You're great with me." She cooed, trying to catch her eyes.
"That's different." Erica hesitated, a sheepish smile gracing her lips. "You're different." She emphasized slowly.
"What do you m-" They were quickly interrupted by Ms. Morrell who peeked her head through the door. Poetry club had been finished some time, she had been in and out of the room, letting them know they were more than welcome to chat there. The girls had both lost track of time.
"Sorry to interrupt but, parent-teacher conferences are about to start, and they need the room."
They thanked her for allowing them to stay before gathering their things. "So, tomorrow, lunch? Think about it?" Erica nodded, and that was all Laina could ask for, saying goodbye as she walked up to her locker, emptying its contents. Parents started to enter the school, and it was only a moment before she felt someone grab her waist.
She yipped, turning around to see Anne and Sheriff Stilinski laughing. "Gotcha!" She rolled her eyes when her aunt pulled her into a tight hug, leaving her arm on her shoulder. "How was poetry club?"
"Lovely. Excited for your meetings?" The two adults shared a doubtful look making Laina laugh. "Don't worry. I'm sure they'll go fine."
"Hey," Anne nudged her. "If you want to stick around for a bit, we can all get dinner." Laina liked having the Sheriff around. When the three of them and Stiles went to eat after the game, she actually ended up having a good time.
"Sure. Sounds good." She grinned, bidding them goodbye as she went to go bother Mrs. Morrell, grateful that she had moved to her office and allowed her to hang out in there while she met with parents. She only taught two French classes, so they worked on their separate tasks while sat across from each other. They were walking out together when she caught sight of Anne and the Sheriff again. "Have a good night, Mrs. Morell. Thanks for today and I'll see you tomorrow."
