"Alright class. Who wants to tell me what they would find at a beach?" I asked my class three children in an excited voice. Every student hand went up and they began talking at once.
I raised both my hands in the air, palms up. "Remember class, you should raise your hands and wait until I point on you" I explained. I pointed on a girl who sat at the corner of the class who had her hand up. "Tiffany go ahead"
"Miss, you have balls and tires and sea shells and trees..." Tiffany replied excitedly. The rest of the students started shouted answers again. Apparently, Tiffany was calling their answers out.
I shook my head. It was like this on most days but my four years at Church Teachers' College prepared me well. Persons always ask me why I didn't do my degree in Primary or Secondary and I always tell them the same thing. I love little kids. I love the feeling I get when I get to teach them something new and exciting. It just gives me an high seeing them get excited.
Eventually class was dismissed and I was packing up to leave because that was the last class of the day. I got in my car and called my best friend, Natasha Palmer. Natasha and I have been friends from high school and we both went to Church Teacher's College but she studied primary education.
After my outburst yesterday. I ended up apologizing to my mother but I was still depressed and not in the mood, so she went to cook dinner and I went back to writing my lesson plans. I called Natasha then and told her of my plans and she promised to help me.
"Hello?" I heard Natasha's voice after the third ring.
"Hey girl. You still at school?" I asked her.
"Yeah girl. Just getting ready to leave" she replied.
"OK. Meet me at Juicy Beef in Cross Road, near the stop light" I said. She agreed and hang up after saying good bye. I wanted to go to Juicy Beef because I wanted to order a patty to eat.
I pulled my car out of the parking lot and headed to Juicy Beef. When I reached the patty shop, I went inside and sat at a booth in the corner. Fifteen minutes later I was joined by Natasha.
"Girl, traffic was terrible. Why didn't we meet at Mother's? It's so much closer" Natasha grumbled as she sat down.
I gave her a look. "You know I don't like Mother's patty and I wanted to get something to eat" I said in a duh tone. She knows that I would rather eat patty at Juicy Beef than Mother's. Mother's patties were too flat and did not taste good.
She rolled her eyes at me, "Alright Lindsey. Whatever" she chuckled while I glared at her.
"Anyways we are here to discuss my plans not to be sidetracked" I said gesturing with my hands.
"Yeah, yeah. What's the plan? Because if you ask me I think its a bad idea" she said nervously as she put her handbag on the seat beside her.
"Why would you think that?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Becauseee" she began stretching out the word. "What if she is in a good family? How would you feel if you go and mess that up for her?"
I frown. She does have a point. I sighed and looked at her. "I know. But what am I supposed to do? I really want to meet her. To know her at least. I'm not going to do anything drastic" I defended.
"OK fine. I know you anyways. Once you set your mind to something you will do it" she said. "So what do you have in mind?"
"I was thinking of putting an ad in the paper or call around..." I trailed of when Natasha starts laughing. I narrowed my eyes at her, "What's so damn funny?"
She stopped laughing to look at me. "You. Ad? Call around? Who are you going to call, Lindsey? You haven't planned this out have you?" She asked accusingly.
"I could ask my mother for the adoption papers and get the parents information!" I shouted exasperatingly.
"For all you know they might have moved or worse migrated" she replied.
"Nat, are you here to help me or what? I don't know what I'm doing but I have to start somewhere" I stated becoming frustrated.
Natasha eyes soften and she looked apologetic. She sighed. "Look, I'm sorry. You must feel terrible and I'm not helping"
"Its OK. I'm just frustrated and tired. Maybe I need to think about this some more tomorrow" I replied defeated.
"Hey, when last have you gone out to enjoy yourself? You need to relax, unwind. Go clubbing" Natasha said out of the blues.
"You know I don't have time for those things. I have lesson plans to construct" I said coming up with a lame excuse.
Natasha didn't buy it. She rolled her eyes, "We all have lessons to plan. You need to take at least one day to have fun. Get your eyebrows shaved, they look a bit disheveled" she stated furrowing her own neatly shaved eyebrows and then she started to give me the once over, "and your hair needs to créme" she added indicating the root of my hair that was growing out.
I snickered at her, "Don't you think I know that? I was planning on doing it tomorrow, like how it's the school's half day" I replied.
"Oh yeah. Tomorrow is Friday" she stated absently, "Anyway so are you in for Saturday night or what?" She asked putting on her sad face.
I sighed, "Fine". She smiled brightly and started digging in her bag for her purse. She stood up when she found it.
"I'm going to buy those patties" she said and went to join the line at the cashier.
My best friend loves going out, while I was the more conservative one. I guess it was our differences that made us best friends in the first place. Anyway, I can't think about partying right now I have to think of a way that I could contact the family that adopted my daughter and I hope I find her soon.
