Seungmin had never been a fan of homeschooling, but his social anxiety always got the better of him when it came to crowded hallways and judging teens, so he managed. He found solace in the pound with all the dogs, who didn't understand the concept of gay, straight, black or white. If you fed them, they liked you, regardless of who you were. Teenagers, however, were not as accepting as the furry canines, and always found a way to instill fear into Seungmin's body whenever one entered the shop. Elderly couple's and middle-aged adults were no problem for him, being that he spent the majority of his time around people older than him due to his homeschooling teachers, but teenagers were a different breed.
It shocked Seungmin that his immediate reaction to Hyunjin's presence wasn't to lock himself inside one of the kennels but to talk to the attractive boy.
"Jesus, what is he doing to me?" He sighed dreamily as he led the Kai Ken attached to the leash in his hand into its designated kennel.
"Who?"
"Ah, fuck!" Seungmin cursed as he accidentally slammed his head against the top of the cage. "What is it with you and making my head hurt?"
Hyunjin giggled at Seungmin's outburst. Water was dripping down his face from his soaking hair, and that's when Seungmin noticed the rain that pattered against the windows with destructive vigor. He inwardly groaned as he thought of all the dogs he'd have to help because of their fear of thunder, but the sight of a wet Hyunjin drastically increased his mood.
"As long as I make your heart flutter more than I make your head hurt, it's okay."
Hyunjin held out a hand for Seungmin to take, the silver rings adorning his fingers complimenting his skin tone.
"Thanks, Jinnie." Seungmin took his hand, and Hyunjin effortlessly hoisted him to his feet, nearly throwing Seungmin into his soaked white shirt that was exposing the muscles hidden beneath. The Kai Ken sat obediently in his cage, despite the temptation to run with the cage door open and inviting.
"Aw, good boy," Seungmin cooed and passed a treat to the puppy. While he happily munched on his treat, Seungmin locked the door, coming face-to-face with Hyunjin, who had unconsciously walked closer.
"So, what did you need today?" Seungmin stuttered, cursing himself internally for letting the butterflies in his stomach control his voice.
"I may or may not have lost Kkami again, but I swear it wasn't my fault! Jisung left the gate open."
Seungmin raised an eyebrow curiously, "I'm going to pretend I know who that is and just take you to her."
Seungmin fetched the familiar keys, knowing already where the puppy was. He vividly remembered his boss walking in with a growling Kkami before he literally threw her into Seungmin's arms. He knew immediately whose dog it was, and if he hadn't, the tag would have told him.
"The light of Hwang Hyunjin's life, please return," Seungmin recited aloud, and he could practically feel the embarrassment radiating off of Hyunjin.
"When you're mine, you'll have the same tag." Hyunjin recovered quickly, his confidence returning when he caught sight of Seungmin's flustered expression.
"That's oddly endearing. Here she is." Seungmin opened the cage and let the hyper puppy run to her owner, barking and nipping at his Vans. Seungmin's heart was melting at the sight of Hyunjin playing with Kkami, the raven-haired boys smile finding a way to light up the pound even with the raging storm outside.
"Aw, my cute little baby," Hyunjin cooed, petting Kkami's head and scratching behind her ears.
"Oh, and Kkami," he added with a wink. Seungmin lightly hit Hyunjin's arm with his sweater paws, the furious blush on his face no match for Hyunjin's flirtiness.
