Jaren's p.o.v-
I woke up in John's arms. I couldn't think of a better way to wake up. A small smile appeared on my face. I was resting my head on John's chest, above his heart. I laid there for a long time, listening to his steady heartbeats, enjoying the rhythmic sound.
John was in a deep sleep, and I didn't want to wake him up. He needed the rest after spending so long under boiling sun. The temperature in his room was awfully chilly, and I wondered if I should put a blanket over him.
I got silently up from the bed and turned the air conditioner a little warmer. I turned to look at John, who shifted a little in his sleep. I was still smiling, when I decided to get myself some water.
When I reached their huge kitchen, I saw John's mom at the other end of the room. She was talking on the phone, giggling.
When Mia noticed me she was quick to hang up the phone. She turned to look at me with an embarrassing smile on her face.
"Don't mind me," I told her, "I'm just getting some water."
"I still think it's a miracle he let you close to him."
"Why?" I asked curiously.
"Well, because of his condition, of course," she said leaning against the counter. "Has he told you that he had a girlfriend when he was fifteen?"
"No," I said slowly. "I thought he never dated anyone that long."
"He hasn't told you about Camila?" Mia asked and frowned. "They dated few weeks before.." she trailed off, looking sad all of sudden.
It took me only a few seconds to know what she meant, "before his heart attack."
"Yeah. It was a few weeks before his birthday. John was in the hospital for a few months after that. It was the worst time of my life, watching while he was fighting for his life..." Mia trailed off again. "After that my sweet baby boy changed. He wasn't the same anymore. He started avoiding people, keeping his distance. Then he started getting into fights, and few times I had to go get him from the police station for him underage drinking. It was horrible to see him throwing him life away."
"And Camila?"
"They broke up. John never told me what happened to her, but she never did come see him in the hospital."
Mia looked at me with a sad smile, "then he met someone, I think it was you."
John's p.o.v
I was leaning against the wall next to the doorway to our kitchen. Neither my mom or Jaren had noticed me coming down the stairs. When I heard my mom mentioning Camila, I froze. My mom had no right to tell Jaren about her, or anything else for that matter.
"Then he met someone, I think it was you." I heard my mom say.
I turned and walked towards the stairs again. I returned to my room and laid down on my bed.
I remember first seeing Jaren in the wrong building because Tyler set him up. At first I was laughing with Tyler but I remembered what it felt like to be the new guy, so I decided to actually go help him to the actual building he needed to go.
I never wanted friends, because I didn't want to cause pain to others, so I figured that could only ask Jaren something in return. Because when I saw his cuts that's when it opened my eyes how fragile and broken Jaren really was.
I don't think me and Jaren would be close if it wasn't for my.. feelings. I had gotten obsessed about Jaren, but I had to been stubborn to let him close. I was glad I couldn't stay away from him, in a way or another.
