Hanji's POV

This man, Levi, led me into the heart of the darkness. I felt every shivering touch from the dark, and I grew scared. Did they want to use me because of who I am? Their darkness would always rule over the night when I would not rule the night. Their forces would harm every person living on this land when there is no moon. If what he said was right, then the dark would rule the night for only a week before I am due to return to the moon.

He led me to a small grove with an open ceiling. I chuckled softly as I twisted my ring a bit, pushing those icy cold shadows away from me. Levi winced softly and stepped back. "H-Hanji... it hurts, you know... I cannot be in your light..."

"My apologies... it hurts me too for being in the dark for too long." I say, sitting on a bed that was silky. I bounced softly on bed, chuckling softly. It was something that I felt like I was at home...

"Hm..." Levi looks up to me and smiles softly. "Maybe you can test how long you can be without your moonlight, Hanji. After all... I don't have much time. The sun's gonna raise up soon. I'll let you rest-"

"Wait!" I suddenly cry out to him, not wanting to him. He was the only one who helped me. "Please stay..."

He nods, walking back towards me. "Until the sun rises. And put the moonlight out... I can't stand it. It's not you, it's my nature."

"I understand... but please... let's try experimenting right now." I say, closing the moonlight, but not fully closed. "Look here... it's dark enough for you, and I still have enough light to keep me going. Does it hurt much?"

Levi winces softly, "A bit... but I think with that amount of moonlight... I think I can manage it, Hanji." He chuckles softly as the shadows on his hand escaped away from my light. "Hurts... but... I think I'll be okay."

I smiled softly towards him, "So... are you some kind of shadow or something?"

"Sorta... I'm the god of darkness."

Gasping softly, I scooted away from him. The story that was burned in my head stood out... we were told that the gods of darkness were an enemy to our lights. Akira and I were told to protect the people from the shadows and my job was to bring them gentle sleep. For me... I had to protect the little ones and prepare them for the morning.

Levi looks up, slowly reaching out. "Hanji... I'm not an enemy-"

"But you are... to the children... to the people... the darkness always takes over when there's no light..."

He sighed heavily, shifting a bit. "I... I know, I know. But I wouldn't dare to lay a finger on them. We only spread when there's no light. I have no intentions of hurting anyone. Yeah, I may look mean and scary... but I wouldn't dare-"

"Why should I trust you?!" I shouted, standing from the bed. "I could've been tricked... or something! I can't trust this..."

"But you trusted me so far, Hanji... trust me more. Please... I have no intentions on hurting the maiden of the moon..."

I turned to him, twisting the ring more. Should I trust him or what? I'm not too sure... "Levi... I don't know... I'm in a place I don't know very well... and I'm stuck here for a week... and why are you calling me 'the maiden of the moon?' I'm no maiden... I'm the goddess of the moon."

"Which makes you even more gorgeous..." He chuckles softly, standing up. He extends his hand out towards me, "Trust me, Hanji..."

I sighed, nodding my head. "Fine... but you have to promise me that you won't hurt the people at night... and that you mean very word and promise. Understand?"

Levi nods, continuing to extend his hand. His stormy eyes swindled around as they waited for me to take his hand. "I understand, Hanji..." He says gently, "Now take my hand... I promise..."

"I'm trusting you on this..." I take his hand, and I felt him pull back in pain. When I looked down to our hands, my hand was still glowing with moonlight... and seeing him in pain... I couldn't take it anymore, and I pulled away. "I-I can't..."

"Hanji..."

"Let me rest... Akira's coming..." I say, looking up to the sky and seeing dawn approaching. "And besides, you need to hide from her sunlight... I need to rejuvenate..." I crawled onto the bed, sighing softly and closing my eyes.

From the side, I heard Levi sigh heavily. "I'll see you tonight then... have a good rest, Hanji..." I listened to his footsteps echo away from me. Was it the right thing to even know him? I'm not sure...
